Commentaires: Gardner Incorporated is a Lawn and Garden Distribution Company that has been in business since the late 1940’s. Our forte is parts distribution. We purchase parts from specific manufactures and distribute those to a large array of dealers within our network as well as large retailers and consumers. We also run a third party side of the business for parts and use the same process designs for those customers. We store 85,000 different items and ship an average of over 2,000 orders a day. When I started with Gardner in January of 2007, one of the agendas tasked to me was to find a way to integrate a warehouse management system with our host System CODIS. As any business grows it creates challenges for an operation to be accountable to its processes. Once an order hit the warehouse floor, the process was very manual and paper driven which always creates inventory loses and ship error accountability. My background has been in 3rd party logistics for fifteen years, which in that time frame I had been exposed to several WMS packages based on the companies I managed. In the fall of 2007 the search began for the WMS. The Exacta system was selected for Gardner mainly because of the success encountered with a sister company during implementation. During site visits and working on their system in a simulated environment, each screen was very similar in appearance, wording and functionality, making it simple for any user. Functionality was a true concern given that Gardner was not geared to a technology based workforce. A project manager and the salesman came on site to perform a detail discovery with the department managers and employees. Once completed, Functional Specification documents outlined the expectations. Bastian Software Solutions had a sound understanding of the needs and there were no surprise costs during the implementation. In May 2010, the installation was nearly seamless as the employees were well trained before thanks to a test environment. There were minor bumps in the process, but the Project Manager did an outstanding job addressing the issues and ensuring our business always fulfilled the customer order expectations. In October 2010, we installed the WMS to our main distribution area. Again, all employees were trained and the system install went very smooth. Within 60 days, the users were proficient on the RF environment with process controls and productivity increases. Once normal operations were achieved the project management team turned over the support issues to the internal support team. The Bastian Support group made this an easy transition. It has now been approximately 2 years and the support level and attention to detail is as thorough now as it was when we went live.
