Maxqda for Qualitative Dissertations

Avantages :

WOW! There is so much functionality with this software. The display of data is very professional looking and helps students create beautiful charts and graphs using their data.

Inconvénients :

It is rather expensive and I would like to find some software that offers a very low cost student edition. Our students are not going to be doing a lot of research as some doc students as they are leaders in public schools. Purchasing an expensive product doesn't make sense. I wish it was easier to learn but, I honestly have not been able to spend the time digging into it as I would like.

Most feature rich QDA application for the price. An essential tool for oganizations of all sizes.

Commentaires : The software offers excellent search features can quickly locate terms or combinations of terms and codes, and automatically add codes according to the user's specifications. I originally used it for work with non-profits and for academic ethnographic research. Now in my work as an analyst, I use MAXQDA to identify relevant information and references to programs and policies in a huge database of research reports.
MAXQDA is powerful tool for analysis and creating research audit trails in any research environment whether in private industry, government or academia.

Avantages :

The interface is very easy to understand which makes the software highly intuitive. Its layout and options for coding text and assigning attributes to documents makes it a very flexible tool that is very useful to academic and policy analysts working in the private sector and government. For the past 3 years, I have found a wide range of uses for MAXQDA including cataloguing and building connections between documents on our research department's harddrive, to assisting a local arts organization interlink video, photo and text for an archival project.

Inconvénients :

The lack of a portable version that can be run from a USB key which would allow users to easily move among their own devices in the office, at home, or in the field. Restrictive licensing and the trend towards leasing is not conducive to long-term projects and data accessibility.

MAXQDA is the sexiest software for your qual analysis you can only imagine!

Commentaires : I made my PhD dissertation entirely on MAXQDA, and my process of writing the dissertation is not possible to imagine without MAXQDA. It helped me to stay inspired during all these 4 years, which had been challenging for many reasons.

Avantages :

exceptionally user-friendly and sexy software for QUAL research! It has all you need and indeed inspires the process of engaging with the data.

Inconvénients :

There are some bugs after the updates, but they are fixed by the team regularly

Ease of coding, but a bit confusing

Commentaires : I was able to analyze qualitative data from interviews in one spot. It allowed me to visualize my codes which helped me with writing up my studies.

Avantages :

Once you have created a qualitative code, the software makes it really easy to assign codes to transcripts. It has a lot of online tutorials, and there are a lot of different tools to use to analyze your data once it is coded.

Inconvénients :

I found it a bit confusing to use the software to organize the data once all of the data is coded. There are supposedly a ton of functions that allow you to organize the data, yet, even with doing the online, it still felt difficult to me. The functionality is great, but the usability still needs to improve.

A Constantly Evolving Data Analysis Software

Commentaires : I have used and watched the Software ant the development of it since 2013, from the late to the last most up to date versions. An expanding develpopment of functionalities, graphics and tool improvements gave me better understanding for the qualitative research that wasn't possible for me before. With the use of MAXQDA I have entered in a new era of research possibilities.

Avantages :

The plethora of tools that software provides the research community.

Inconvénients :

From the start I'm excited with all the possibilities of the software so I can't say that there would be a feature, tool or function in MAXQDA software that I like the least.
