"Google Sheets: A User Friendly Experience"

Commentaires: Google Sheets has allowed me to be more efficient with my grading. As a classroom teacher, grading can take up a lot of time and become overwhelming. Google Sheets has solved this problem for me and allowed me to create a system that is tailored made to meet my exact needs. Our budgeting has also improved significantly. In the past, everything was kept track on paper with lots of missed items and deadlines. With using Google Sheets and the "shared" option, we no longer have these problems.

Avantages: Google Sheets is very user friendly. I use it for a couple of activities in my classroom. My first main use is using it as a grade book. I have created different tabs for each subject area. I then went through and set up each section with each assignment that I wanted to track the data on. I used the conditional formatting feature so that everything is automatically color coded as it is entered. This allows me to instantly see which students are falling behind and which assignments are missing. I like this better than other online gradebook options, because I have complete control over everything that is set up and entered. This did take significant time to set up, but the great thing about it is that I can now copy over the same Google Sheet each year and reuse it. This has ended up saving me lots of time as I prepare progress reports and report cards as well. The other main way that I use Google Sheets is as a budgeting tool. I help organize the budget for my grade level team. We have each section of our budget prepared on a different tab. We set up columns to keep track of the expenses ahead of us and ones that have already been processed. Perhaps the best feature is that we have this as a "shared" sheet. So everyone on the team has access to the sheet and can edit it. This helps to create a level of transparency and tracking which has been very helpful for our team.

Inconvénients: Overall, there is very little about Google Sheets that is not useful. Like similar products, there is a small learning curve depending on your experience with the product. However, any problem that I have had, I have simply searched for a YouTube video on the issue and I have easily found guidance to fix it.

"Solid Collaborative Spreadsheet Tool with the Essential Features"

Commentaires: Google sheets is an excellent collaborative spreadsheet tool that allows multiple users to work on the same spreadsheet concurrently without worrying about merging files later. Google sheets can be shared with specific people within your organization or the entire organization, and even people outside of your organization with this product. Colleagues can also request to spreadsheets to receive approved access, giving secure but not excessive security. Our company has had great success by building spreadsheets internally and then sharing the finished sheet with a client. We have also had success working on sheets collaboratively with a client in the past. The “see history” feature allows you to go back in time to see who changed what and revert to a previous copy should major mistakes be made. The product provides powerful formulas as well as a scripting language that can be leveraged. There is also conditional formatting. We use this to track numerical values, as well as check lists when doing client implementations, shared directly with clients. Google sheets is an excellent online tool that makes sense to use if you are already using Google products. It can be used to track progress on projects, initiatives and even client implementations successfully. It is a very light weight tool that does not take a lot effort to get set up and start working on right away.

Avantages: The formulas that Sheets provide have good documentation within the product, and there’s also documentation online to help understand the syntax and how to use each formula. For those who are used to excel you will need to get familiar with some of the changes, but there significant overlap. Powerful formulas such as Vlookup are also available which is nice if you are used to MS Excel. For those who have used VBA in Excel, you will have to relearn the scripting language that Google sheets provides. The scripting language is functional and fun to use however it is more like JavaScript then VBA. You will need to have prior development experience in order to leverage the scripting functionality, similar to how VBA works with Excel. For those in your company who are not excel power users, then they should see very little difference between Ms Excel and Google Sheets, and should be able to easily complete the job that they have to do within Google sheets. The sharing and collaboration features are good and what you would except from a tool used internally and with clients.

Inconvénients: The scripting language provided is useful however I have found VBA to be far more useful at this time. Certain features such as conditional formatting and other features from Microsoft Excel are either harder to use or not available in the Google Sheets right now which ultimately makes MS Excel my preferred choice if I’m doing “power user” work. Google sheets is likely to continue to improve and bridge the gap between itself and Excel, I still however would prefer to use Excel over Google sheets if no collaboration is required on a document. The user community is not as large as Excel’s, making it harder to get help online for certain issues.

"Best Way to Collaborate on your Sheets"

Commentaires: Its easy and free (for personal use) which makes its one of the best products out there. So far I have been using all the G-Suite products extensively and it as been a great experience.

Avantages: The ease of being able to share and work together on the same sheet with your team members is the best feature of this product. Not to mention the value for money that it provides

Inconvénients: I feel that it could use some additional formatting features to help with reporting and analytics, vlookup, etc
