Flexible tool that still requires improvements
Commentaires : I am using SDL Trados since 2008 and I am overall happy with it. Every time, though, they launch a new version it takes a couple of months until their version gets stable and doesn't crash any more.
Avantages :
It has several useful functions, a good quality assurance process, it is easy to install and maintain.
Inconvénients :
It is crashing frequently, it gets slow when you handle large files, it lacks some functionalities other CAT-Tools offer.
Practical but too expensive
Commentaires : This software helped me to build my own private translation memory and made the translation process easier, faster and more accurate.
Avantages :
The software is widely used by translation agencies and it's well known between professional translators and this is making it easy work with. Translation memory could be transferred smoothly between translation agencies and translators and the same could be done between translators themselves. The interface is easy to understand and many useful features are included to help translators doing a good job.
Inconvénients :
There's no Auto-save feature. If the software became unresponsive or PC suddenly went off for any reason, all work done will be erased and couldn't be recovered. The software is too expensive.

Inconvénients :
- Documentation - Such features as term extraction cost extra

From work horse to elephant, from elephant to dinosaur
Commentaires : Our overall experience with Trados Studio is that it is a tool that is hard to master. We think that at some stage no love was put any longer into this tool.
Avantages :
We use this software because we have to. We're a translation company and our clients ask us to use this tool. They made an investment in Trados Studio years or even decades ago and they are reluctant to change. There is nothing really we like about this tool. However, we have to use it daily.
Inconvénients :
Trados Studio was first launched at the end of the 1980s. For years, they had not serious competitors. When other players entered the market, Trados added more and more features related to Project Management, QA , Resource management etc. It`s hard to combine all this into one tool and here are some thoughts for Trados (owned by the RWS group these days) to right the ship: 1. Adding/fixing tags is totally unintuitive. They cannot just be copied and pasted. It´s important to know that many translators are having to deal with 10 (ten) translation tools in a typical work week - and nobody these days bothers to read user's manuals. You expect the software to work as you think it should. Just like when you hire a car: You don't read the user's manual. 2. The QA is so compley and cumbersome that it should be overhauled immediately. In fact, most of our clients are asking us to do the QA using Xbench, Verifika etc. 3. Handling multiple files can be difficult and cause Studio to crash. If you have a software project with 100 files, which is not uncommon, opening and saving these files takes a very long time. Other tools handle this much better. 4. The Freelance version (which I think is around 600 EUR) only handles 5 languages. The Professional version, which allows all languages, package creation etc., is 1000 EUR. I think that's too expensive. Adding to this, there no monthly subscription scheme, probably pushing many translators into pirate software.

Not the best CAT tool in the market
Commentaires :
You better think of that if you consider implementing this system in your enterprise:
You definitely need to train your employees on it, it's not an easy to use App, it needs training and the courses about this software is an industry itself and I see that a weakness not a strength point.
Avantages :
I give the software that it is really accepting (nearly) all formats you perhaps need to use in your works in localisation and translation industries.
Inconvénients :
the cost of software is very high, it slows the computer (if you don't have a one with enough computing power) you feel like installing a heavy-software like photoshop! although you are dealing (or that just me?) just with texts. the UI are crowded, very crowded (when I using it I remember that I don't need a lot of its features)
