Solution de référence
Avantages :
My experience virtualizing productivity environment for the growth of services
Commentaires : The opportunity to share my experience with the use of VMwaresVphere is generous because I can help other users with my recommendation or other potential clients who wish to implement a virtualized environment
Avantages :
I have worked for a few years in virtualization, using virtual environments completely or mixed environments, virtual - physical, and MWware vSphere has shown me to be a hypervisor, taking full advantage of the processing capacity of each host, so taking advantage of the centralized administration that is achieved through VMware Vcenter, the large number of configurations of networks and virtual networks give an additional value to product. Likewise the use of multiple operating systems allows me to have a server farm with a variety of services to our customers to meet their needs 100%. Actually working VMware vSphere together with VMware vCenter is the greatest benefit cost advantage, since we have significant savings in terms of equipment maintenance, licensing, space saving, energy savings and man hours dedicated to supervising a physical environment as such.
Inconvénients :
The daily work of the vSphere tool has helped me to know it and not only know its advantages and benefits but also its few weak points, however its greatest weakness may be its high cost, which for implementations in small business environments can be very difficult. of implementing since a technological infrastructure of process of a great capacity is required and the cost in the licensing would affect in an important way the cash flow, and it would be underutilized. Without the integration of VMware Vcenter 100% all the benefits of VMware vSphere would not be used. Equally, the training of the staff would also have a huge cost, even though the training by the technical staff is excellent, there is also the virtual training that gives the advantage of cost savings, however it is not as effective as in person.

Vmware Vsphere
Commentaires : It's cost-effective - pay as use concept if no need stop your services and get free from billings Space Effective - physical to virtual conversation helps you to save your infra space which is not possible in case of physical deployment Why Vsphere - it a product of a leading virtualization vendor.
Avantages :
Vsphere - Vcenter is the platform where you can create configure and customize the virtual machines as per the customer requirement Vsphere allows you to synchronize with multiple host/nodes, which helps you run the features of high availability smart server deployment. Vsphere has various products which help every smaller multinational organization to manage their cloud infrastructures. Vpshere allows you the features which highly recommended and essential to smoothly run any organization. Vsphere is the product of Vmware and the vendor is running in the top list of virtualization providers Features of Vsphere High Availability - Providing the high SLA Distributor resource scheduler - smart deployment of servers Distributor power management - save you cost Fault Tolerance - Zero downtime Wow that you rarely get with any other virtualization platform.
Inconvénients :
Vsphere should be licensed purchased it's not allowed you to run the infra after 30 days of trial. There are various packages available for their products, so small-level organizations are supposed to run all features they have to pay the cost of the required product. Should require stronger connectivity to access your Vsphere smoothly.
Mac client works fairly well with some issues
Commentaires : Ability to run a Windows VM in a smart card required environment is essential and VMware Horizon is the only solution available so far.
Avantages :
Allows logging into a Windows VM from a Mac in a smart card required environment. The performance is speedy.
Inconvénients :
Frequently when the Windows VM screenlocks (goes to sleep) you can't unlock it. Quitting the VM and logging back in is the workaround. On Mac 10.12 Sierra and later, you must disable Apple's CryptoTokenKit, because Horizon will not work with it enabled. Which means pairing your smart card using Apple's native protocol (as opposed to using a third-party solution) is not possible.
Perfect for hosting private clouds on-prem
Commentaires : Largley positive, but when there is an incident affecting the entire cluster, you can expect to have a bad day. For example if there are locking issues within the cluster against a fibre-channel storage array, you may need to reboot the entire cluster resulting in an outage of 100% of all infrastructure on the platform.
Avantages :
The web UI makes it very easy to manage ESXi hosts and their configuration, as well as individual VM configuration. It is simple to setup an HA toplogy with numerous VMs running on a cluster of ESXi (hypervisor) hosts. DRS makes it simple to automatically migrate VMs between hosts in a cluster.
Inconvénients :
The licencing of features is complex, and base level licences preclude feature such as storage vMotion and DRS. This should be part of the base offering. The vSphere API is a bit clunky and the SDKs available in python are quire fragmented. No infrastructure as code offerings are made as all configuration is generally done manually by clicking the mouse, or via manual CLI commands.
VMware VSphere: A Virtualization Server for Private Clouds
Commentaires : It was great working with VSphere to simplify the management and deployment of clients. By employing it all the VM creation, deployment, and processing is done on the server side and all the client is responsible of is providing the VM display more or less.
Avantages :
I deployed VSphere in my networking class to provide the students with managed VMs containing common software packages and tools. VSphere was up to the challenge using a commodity Dell Intel server with 64 GB RAM. It provided virtualization support to 22 VSphere clients. The clients merely provided the VM display and all the processing is done on the server side. The control center for managing the virtual machines is extremely simple to use and the migration (using VMware VMotion) is also seamless. The next step for us is to start testing network virtualization using the VMware NSX server.
Inconvénients :
The client software hangs and lags unexpectedly. As a developer, I sense that the VSphere client could be better enhanced in terms of performance as well as in the look and feel.
Vsphere - Best virtualization software
Commentaires : virtualization in a very good way without any major issues & less human intervention to manage the platform. Patching automation with VUM , DRS , HA are some of the excellent features of vsphere. Moreever the latency wise very less compared to other hypervisor softwares.
Avantages :
I would say the vsphere provides various features as a package. vmotion , FT , DRS , Affinity/Antiaffinity rules , HA , monitoring , automations etc..VROPS/VRLI/VRA/VRO are the tools provided along with vsphere which provides excellent features when compared to its competitors
Inconvénients :
Obviously the costing is the major drawback especialy the production support cost & it's not that much value for money , since vmware support takes more time to resolve & troubleshoot issue. It's my personal opinion. Other issue is in patching , vmware needs to come up with one click upgrade same how their competitors have.
Works well for large organizations, a bit costly for smaller companies
Commentaires : I've been using it for over 9 years now, started with version 4.0 and have gotten good exposure to all versions up to and including 6.7.
Avantages :
Ease of use, the functionality. The ability to add more API's as well as creating different levels of administration. IE Helpdesk, user, administrator etc. Helpdesk is very helpful and work with you till there is an actual resolution to the problem.
Inconvénients :
The cost. Compatibility with some of the older hardware (specifically Dell R810). Almost impossible to get support for any version less than 6.0.
vSphere One of the best virtualization tools
Commentaires : Very happy, virtualization of servers is very important in the 2022 ICT world. vSphere works great, we use it for all of our customers and integrate it with DR tools
Avantages :
The way of use, very easy, stable solution, support of several types of hardware (and software, marktpleader, integration with DR solutions.
Inconvénients :
The price for using a version with several features you want can be expensive for the SMB companies but it works great! So it's the hogher price double worth!
Alternatives envisagées précédemment :
The only infrastructure you will need
Avantages :
The integration with so many products makes this an easy choice.
Inconvénients :
The initial setup can take some time to get right.
VmWare vSphere is the best
Commentaires : I use Vsphere daily to manage Virtual Environments. I like the interface, clean, intuitive and easy to use
Avantages :
Vsphere is a must when you manage Virtual Machines / Storage and their environment. Fro the Vsphere Client Dashboard you can see all your VM, the storages and for every VM you can create/delete a new one, change the settings, do some actions such as reboot, power on/off, take (and revert) snapshots, move the VM to another node/storage, just to tell some actions you could do. Obviously you can connect to selected VM (without the need of using RDP or SSH for example). There is a lot of documentation on internet if you need information or support.
Inconvénients :
it seems the price will increase a lot for Italy customers
The best virtualizing solution
Commentaires : Vmware’s vSphere is one of those products that you despite its cost you will never feel like you made a bad investment buying. It gives me so many options when it comes to remote management of all the software I have running within the local ecosystem. What was really impressive was how we were able to demo newer enterprise software within a control environment giving us a perspective that we would have never had given the old software that was present. With the recent Corvid outbreak, we were actually able to implement VPNs and grant remote access without having to invest in new hardware.
Avantages :
Stability and scaling were very important to me when choosing a solution to my problems. One of my clients had an old ERP software connected to an equally old version of SQL server. Pressed to upgrade and incorporate newer cloud base services I had to find something that could be used in the interim but could be shaped slowly to match our needs. I chose vSphere and it worked out very well. Having something that remote workers could access, that was stable and secure meant we able to weather the storm. The ESXi is easy to access as it is web based. Now I run all our servers on VMWare with an integrated remote cloud service for backup. Just the ability to preserve data stored in the vintage ERP alone was worth the cost.
Inconvénients :
While the ESXi is easy to access its can be confusing at first. Its hard to focus on what you need to see as the interface is very cluttered. Also, Hardware requirements and licensing can be taxing. While it was critical to protect our data no matter the cost the costing and implementation still felt a bit excessive. There is also huge learning curve when it comes to using some of vSphere’s functions When incorporating it into your on-site datacenter you will definitely need to train your staff or hire an expert cloud technician to monitor and manage your cloud services.
Struggle to survive?
Commentaires :
It is a great software, even masterpiece in some aspects. But it feels as it requires too much resources and money to be justified in the most of cases. Most of consumers aren't going need it especially as there are free alternatives.
Still one should carefully consider whether it is time for say Kubernetes or the company's requirements demands something bigger and more sophisticated.
Avantages :
It still a well-known and - which is more important - widely adopted solution tightly coupled with other VMWare products. it is very easy to hire required specialist or get help. In 2019 VSphere did a huge step forward embracing Kubernetes as a first-class citizen. Implies very strict and much safier application (vm/containers - depends on the poin of view and scenario) separation. Para-virtualization sometimes delivers on it's promise to speed up containers.
Inconvénients :
It is just way too huge without real benefits. Yes, it is offers a better separation of your components as every vm acts like separate computer. Yes, it is capable to run containers. Metrics are there, too and they are quite good. But. Do you really need it? There is much tinier alternatives . Kubernetes or Docker Swarm (can't recommend that one though) while being the solutions of a different class may still be enough for a vast major of scenarios. On top of that, vSphere is costly not in terms of licensing, it also requires a quite different hardware.
Data center virtualization from the industry leader
Commentaires : We are 90+ percent virtualized on vSphere, and like many others, it is a game changer and huge money saver. With vSphere using vCenter, we manage our entire virtualized enterprise in a single pane of glass. We use it to provision compute and storage resources, monitor performance, get alerts, and manage VM DR.
Avantages :
vSphere lets us virtualize nearly any Windows and Linux operating system we want, with a few exceptions such as AIX and Solaris, and manage virtualized resources across our enterprise spanning multiple data centers. It has multiple plugins for the storage we use (Dell EMC VxFlex, VMAX, etc). It is very widely adopted, so help is easy to find on the web.
Inconvénients :
I don't have any significant complaint about the software itself, but VMWare support isn't as good as it should be, especially given its size. Since VMWare is integrated with lots of different OS's and storage, there seems to be a lot of finger pointing when we engage support, and it's hard to finally get to a competent support engineer. I will concede that when we call support, it is nearly always a complex issue.
They're the market leader for a reason, but so many features means complicated UX
Avantages :
Every feature an hypervisor can offer - widest feature set and ecosystem to deliver the most comprehensive solution. They scale very well across all parameters: Cluster size, datastore size, VM count, fault tolerance at scale Etc. Their VSAN is great for ROBO deployments, as you get a single pane of glass for all layers (compute, network, storage) HA / DRS / VSMC are all excellent tools for improving availability of the applications that drive the business.
Inconvénients :
Every feature means a complicated GUI, with way too many nobs to turn for a small deployment. They VSAN scales poorly in terms of ROI, as more often than not you need the All-Flash VSAN, which after 2-3 copies of the data yields low capacity at double or triple the cost of the (already expensive) Flash Media. Replication is nice but again limited in scale, works great in getting data off the ROBOs to the main datacenter but not scalable enough as a DR solution
Good product for virtualizations, no matter what OS you need to deploy.
Commentaires : -One of the best environments to manage virtual machines.
Avantages :
-Stability for server environments, most of my client's resources are working with vSphere without issues. The most important thing to do is don´t forget best practices tips for the first deployment. -New interface with HTML5 it´s for me the best upgrade from the last years, no more issues trying to manage environments from Linux or MAC. -HA options and configuration works with single clicks, making easier for none IT guys. -Optimize budget for hardware and energy expenses, making easy upgrades and migrations.
Inconvénients :
-Need an experienced partner to deploy it on business with more than 100 servers. This is important for newer users because partner services are very expensive, making professional services more than a half of the budget. -Old users need to adapt his knowledge to the new interface without the appropriate documentation. -The user guide is not very useful for new users, need more details and explain those tips that are not available on the web interface. -The mobile app is the worst feature on VMware, a year ago was the last time I tried to do something there. Until they get his effort on his apps don't spend any time on this.
vSphere
Commentaires : We went virtual in 2007 using vSphere and have never looked back. vSphere is the backbone of our datacenter environments and has allowed us to provide resources for application owners as well as integrate with products like VMWare Site Recovery Manager, so we can protect our data across multiple datacenters. It is a fantastic product.
Avantages :
When managed via vCenter, distributing virtual machines amongst distributed resources is about the most powerful aspect of this product. It allows administrators to maximize value from hardware purchases and create internal redundancies and high availability.
Inconvénients :
vSphere 7 introduced a new strategy in the use of the host boot disk to the point that certain types of boot disks were burning out and causing host servers to crash. VMWare now forcing customers to buy new hardware for existing hosts in order to avoid downtime.
Easy & Simplistic to use, yet full of features that make management of virtual machines easy
Avantages :
Ease of access to manage virtual machines. vSphere allows for you to easily manage your entire Virtual Infrastructure, from the Data Storage used to house the VMs to the creation and management of the Virtual Machines themselves. Clone, Deploy, and Configure multiple VMs within minutes... You can stand up an entire infrastructure composed of virtual machines within a short time (depending on available resources) using vSphere
Inconvénients :
There can be a slight learning curve for anyone who has not managed a virtual environment. VMware vSphere has numerous functions, features, and capabilities and it can at times seem overwhelming; however, VMware provides great articles and knowledge bases to help even the most novice administrator become a vSphere power user.
the leading virtualization platform on the market since more than a decade. A must
Commentaires : state of the art datacenter automation, virtualization, infrastructure management
Avantages :
vsphere is the private-cloud datacenter operating system of choice, market leader, full packed of features and with an impressive ecosystem of third party products which integrate fully with it. Since more than a decade, vsphere has brought virtualization into almost every shop on earth and changed the way the IT departments administer their infrastructure, making it way more flexible, easier, faster and smarter.
Inconvénients :
i have a hard time when thinking about something I dislike in vSphere. I think that the product can be pricey, depending on the licensing level chosen, and this is maybe the aspect I dislike the most, even if I honestly believe that it is worth its money.
The absolute BEST software for virtualization
Commentaires : It's my favorite software in terms of virtualization. The deployments become easy as soon as you make some experience. The software stability is awesome, it's easy to manage, the dashboard is intuitive, it integrates perfectly with Veeam for the backup part and it has a lot of useful knowledge base threads in case you need support.
Avantages :
Amazing overall stability, a lot of docs available, good knowledge base, loads of good integrations, easy to manage and super intuitive dashboard.
Inconvénients :
The deployment might be difficult for newbies.
VMWare vSphere
Commentaires : We are able to host much more software on our servers, and manage them through vSphere. This is a large savings in hardware, and increases our reliability. vSphere makes it easier & cheaper to manage the software (VMs) in our environment.
Avantages :
This software is easy to use and has many powerful management features for our small data center. We have been using this for years and it has been stable and reliable without issue. Once you are familiar with it, very powerful actions can be taken with a minimum number of clicks-- a real time-saver!
Inconvénients :
It can take a bit of hunting to find the settings you are looking for-- the software provides many different views so it does take some time to become familiar with the location of what you're looking for.
Best in class enterprise virtualization software
Commentaires : If you want the best VM software and you have the budget, choose vSphere.
Avantages :
The best reason to choose VMware is for its industry leading performance and stability. There are workloads that have been running for decades on VMware. This is the most performant, stable, and secure virtualization software on the market. The management software has come a long ways, with vCenter and vRealize suites becoming much more useable. We also leverage the GPU slicing feature which is unique to VMware due to the Nvidia partnership. Support is also top-notch with high response SLA.
Inconvénients :
The biggest con is cost, VMware simply costs A LOT. They tend to throw everything (compute, storage, networking, management) in a large bundle with an enormous per-CPU cost. If you have a constrained budget, it will be a challenge to make everything fit. Also the vendor lock-in is very strong. Even though you can move VMware workloads to public cloud, they are still running on VMware infrastructure in the public cloud datacenter. So workloads aren't really portable.
