Intuitive Tools for Creating Infrastructure

Commentaires : I've been really happy with DigitalOcean. I started out just messing around with a small side project to stay sharp. I'm now running a server for an API, another server for a frontend app, and a managed DB that the API pulls from. Connecting these was easy and connecting my domains to different servers was easy. I have loved working in DigitalOcean and I love that the prices are low enough that I could play around without any real intent of making a profitable project, and that breathing space let me run the servers and resources for long enough that I actually have something up and running pretty nicely with just a few hours here and there to tinker.

Avantages :

- Great UI - you can do everything in the browser without using CLI - create new web servers, managed databases, bucket storage - API matches Amazon S3 - familiar methods of interacting with resources - Pricing is great, 200GB bucket storage runs $5/mo, Servers start at $5 month, managed DB at $15/mo. - CDN for fast delivery across the globe - Easy to understand your bill and not get bit. You can create an image of your server and then kill the server, so you are not being charged server prices ($$/month) and just image prices (pennies/month). This makes it easy to put a project on hold and come back in the future without paying a ton to host something that's just waiting for you. - One-click to spin up a provisioned Ubuntu droplet, LAMP stack or dozens of preconfigured server images. I especially liked this feature because I'm not a linux genius and getting Apache and PHP setup can take me hours of tears and frustration. Instead, you can just select an image that interests you and 30 seconds later you have a server ready to go. - Floating IPs let you lock in a permanent IP address even though you may start and stop servers and their individual IPs might change - Domain management. This is a key feature. If you move your nameservers to DO, it's stupid easy to create subdomains and point them to your DO servers. - Easy to resize/upgrade a server, add RAM or disk space. - Tons of Q&A, any time I had a question someone else had already asked it and received a clear answer.

Inconvénients :

There is the occasional UI bug, and sometimes I get an email about a region having some temporary hold on creating new servers. Nothing that lasts more than a few minutes, and usually its something like "We are temporarily disabling the ability to create new servers in the NYC3 Region" but existing resources don't go down and if I desperately needed to start a new server I could just use any other region and move it to the NYC3 region later if necessary.

Affordable but has some problems

Commentaires : My overall experience with them is good but I suggest DigitalOcean users to back up their droplets frequently to another service provider. If they lock your account, the customer service is hard to reach and if they wouldn't restore your access, you are risking losing your data.

Avantages :

The user interface is really easy to use, with a few clicks it allows you to create a droplet across the globe. Also, it is easy to manage access controls and overall network/firewall rules. They provide affordable S3 like data storage solution called "Spaces". If you are switching from Amazon S3, the best thing about Spaces is it compatible with official S3 libraries which eliminates the implementation process as you can use the same infrastructure for Spaces too.

Inconvénients :

They should revise Spaces product page/documentation. I had to reach customer support to verify that spaces is just a subscription service so it comes with unlimited buckets. This information is not provided on their product page. Also, their customer service is really hard to reach, and they are not helpful. The worst thing about their service is their automated bots. They can lock your account without a valid reason, and it really hard to convince them to undo it.

DigitalOcean is a wonderful tool for developers and small businesses

Commentaires : My overall experience. When I first started, I was a beginner in server management. There was a time where I didn't know what I was doing. But after spending time with the documentation and researching further user forums, I felt more confident that I understood how DigitalOcean worked for me. Now I can safely say that this was a good investment into my future business.

Avantages :

I really enjoy the use of Droplets to build my own servers just the way I want. With options to control how large my server is and more options to scale it in the future, I can be assured that DigitalOcean will have what I need.

Inconvénients :

There is always room for improvement with any application. DigitalOcean makes is hard to find faults but I would say improving the console experience is always at the forefront of my mind. Making shortcuts and scripts to set up servers quickly would be nice for brand new users.

Terrible hosting!

Commentaires : I have used Digital Ocean for more than 2 years and I regret it. I started over the recommendation of our freelancer, but in 2 years, I always had a hard time, from setting up, to managing, to backup, and performance, everything was very hard and confusing for me. And whenever I had a problem and opened a ticket, I only received automated responses and never heard from a real person answering my messages! In the end, one of my sites was hacked because of Digital Ocean and they didn't even bother to respond to me for anything at all! I finally pulled the plug and changed to another hosting provider which I am happy with! So, in short, if you are not a genius with IT, stay away from Digital Ocean. Or if you use, pray that you will not have any problems and will need technical support, because if you do, support will be nowhere to be found! Stay away at all costs! You will regret it!

Great cloud hosting for everyone

Commentaires : We have had a great experience with Digitalocean ever since we started using it. It is extremely easy to use and very fast.

Avantages :

Digitalocean is so extremely easy to use. You can get a product deployed in under 10 minutes, with super fast build times.

Inconvénients :

It is somewhat expensive, however the ease of use makes it very worth it.

What I like most about DigitalOcean are its ease of use and user-friendly interface. The only throwback I have with DigitalOcean is that it may not have as many features and services as some of the larger cloud providers, such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud. DigitalOcean focuses mainly on providing simple, easy-to-use solutions for developers and small to medium-sized businesses, and may not have as many specialized services or advanced features as some of the larger providers. But am sure they are working on adding more features soon.

Currently, Digital ocean is my number one recommended VPS provider. It provides reliable and flexible hosting features which can fully be managed by the user himself.Although it does require advanced knowledge in cloud computing, but did its best to maintain everything simple and straightforward.The company offers step-by-step article guides for all its products. This keeps the customer well-oriented.All of the servers are hosted in secure and trusted countries and this ensures an accurate distribution of data, hence providing more speed and enthusiasm for users and site owners.It offers flexible pricing plans which are easily scalable (depending on the user's needs) and what entices me more is the pay-as-you-go pricing model which enables me to pay for only what I use. This is quite different from all these web hosting companies who will trick you to pay for some hosting commitments.I run more than three WordPress websites on a single droplet ( 2Cores CPU, 2 Gb RAM, and Ubuntu 18.04), and after testing three different themes and a number of plugins; the speed performance results are still amazing.The Digital ocean user interface is very neat & organized. This helps to facilitate feature placement recognition. The company also provides a built-in commands terminal which makes it easier to run the server installation process as well as any other reacquired components.The company support staff is very friendly.

Commentaires : Digital Ocean accomodates all kind of public. I use it's services for my small to medium business websites, for hosting, databases and backup. I also deploy my internal tools there. It's affordable, reliable and also plays nice with others.

You can depend on Digital Ocean. It's server are very sturdy, you can choose from a very wide range of options and everything is documented.

Inconvénients :

It's complicated to setup properly, but it's getting better every day. This is not Digital Ocean's fault, Cloud Computing is though.

Commentaires : It's a great product for fast and reliable web hosting. Digital Ocean is suitable for hosting standards for large websites and applications. I like it because it provides a great site performance score and also provides full controllability.

What I like about Digital Ocean is that:- I only pay for the resources that I use. While several other hosting providers will urge clients to go in for long-term hosting, Digital Ocean enables clients to only pay for what they use. This is pretty transparent if you ask me.- It's easy to use: While this may make sense to some people, Digital Ocean has one of the most simple and ease-to-use workspaces. Features are well allocated and they are not even supercharged. It makes it easy to locate an item without hassles.- It uses solid-state drives which are way faster than the usual storage most companies offer.- iT various droplets which are easy to configure and can also be deployed

The reasons why I stopped using Digital Ocean is that:- After three months of hosting, the system started refusing my prepaid visa card meanwhile I'd been using it in the previous months without stress when I reached out to the support team they took a longer time to respond and didn't solve the problem. They suggested that I should try paying via Paypal and there was an extra $10 that got added to the initial fees that I was to pay. At a point, it made no sense to me.- Secondly, all services are self-managed. Although it somehow gives full controllability what about beginners who have little knowledge of cloud computing or similar products? they won't make it.- Fast support comes at an extra cost. This is not a good model - It makes no sense to reduce subscription fees to later ask me to pay for support. It's not even common in today's business world. Please consider upgrading.

Best Cloud Hosting for Developers with Wonderful User Interface and Tutorials

Commentaires : Overall I am quite happy with the way DigitalOcean is. Currently my site is hosted on DigitalOcean and loads quickly. A faster loading site means more visitors and more visitors means more income generating possibilities. Spinning new servers from images save lot of time.

Avantages :

Things that I like about DigitalOcean are 1) You get power of cloud computing at some discount compared to Amazon and Google. 2) Nice and intuitive dashboard. 3) You can provision new servers in around 60 seconds. 4) Developer friendly. 5) Ability to collaborate with teams. 6) Predictable pricing. 7) Scale up as you grow. 8) Can enable IPv6 for the server. 9) Get to know various monitoring metrics like CPU and RAM consumption, disk usage, bandwidth consumption in the dashboard at a minimal interval of 5 minutes. You can see these usage for last 14 days. 10) Take backups and snapshots incase of anything goes wrong. 11) Easy to configure Firewall. 12) Can increase disk space easily by adding Block Storage to the droplets. 13) DigitalOceans Spaces can be used to offload static files for as low as $5 for 1TB CDN bandwidth and reduce load on server. 14) DigitalOcean has one of the best knowledge base and how to articles to get you started or get out if you are stuck. 15) Create alerts to receive email notification 16) Get email notification when monthly spending reaches your defined threshold.

Inconvénients :

Things that I don't like about DigitalOcean are 1) You have to turn off the droplet to scale up or scale down. 2) Information regarding DDoS attacks on droplets should also me made available in the control panel. 3) Backups and Snapshots costs extra and are pricy. 4) Does not accept prepaid cards for payments.

DigitalOcean is my favorite go-to hosting solution

Commentaires : I am overall extremely satisfied with DigitalOcean, but like every company - I think there are some core features they can (and should) improve.

Avantages :

- They have an extremely clear pricing model - you always know what you're gonna be paying that month (no unexpected charges of $5k). - It's really simple to get setup and working - They allow for Floating IP's (for free, while being assigned to a droplet) and this allows you to really quickly reroute traffic to another service. - It has a very well documented and powerful API so you can automate repetitive tasks - They generally respond well to user feature requests on their portal.

Inconvénients :

- It feels like snapshotting or creating a new server takes longer than it needs to. - You cannot download snapshots. - You cannot transfer services (like a droplet or ip) to another account or team.

Fantastic value and easy to use

Avantages :

Digital Ocean is unbeatable on cost and ease of use for an IAAS. Managing droplets is intuitive and as simple as you can hope for. Uptime / reliability is great.

Inconvénients :

Doesn't have as much power as AWS, but that's the trade-off for simplicity.

Affordable Cloud computing environment

Commentaires : We have deployed grade auctioning platform on digital ocean. Application workload is too heavy on some days. But digitlocean still could manage the workload smoothly. We also deployed few smaller size applications and smaller TPS db instances on smallest droplets. So the can have cost benefit here. I can definitely recommend DigitalOcena to anyone.

+ I/O problems in smaller droplets. + Network security cannot be implemented to the deeper level. + Limitation on custom images (ex. Cannot have more than 100GB image, cannot assign floating IP)

Easy to use

Commentaires : It has been amazing

Avantages :

It is really simple to spin up a server from scratch or to use something that is already on the marketplace, if you want to play around something is as simple of searching and then apply a custom image with the software preinstalled, or if you are an advance user and have your own docker images, you can orchestrate the kubernetes cluster without issues.

Inconvénients :

Distributed Private Networks could be improved, firewall rules are really good, missing some more advanced granularity for very specific needs

Commentaires : Honestly I will use digitalocean till the earth collapse or me collapse. Using digitalocean is like eating cookies... It's great using digitalocean.

Avantages :

The Load Balancer is a live saving. It's a great tool for distributing traffic's across servers. I love the server monitoring. It gives us good insight on what's happening on our server. VPS deployment is as fast as a lightening. Within a twinkling of an eye I can deploy multiple servers without delay.

Inconvénients :

The feature am expecting digital ocean to add next is using multiple IP on Cpanel. Like controlling two servers directly from 1 cpanel account.

Commentaires : Fast, Robust, Great techincal support. I actually Signed up for trial to learn about their services and features the main purpose was for VPn but I ended up making it a node for online game tunneling.

Avantages :

DigitalOcean is a great platform for many developers and cloud computing enthusiasts as they provide up to date hardware for their systems. they have a robust network and greater availability regions and have great customer support that will help you anytime. DigitalOcean's market presence is quite high. the most interesting thing that I found was they have very low latency for VPN uses in Droplet.

Inconvénients :

The only thing that is hated about it is that I was not able to successfully use it as a VPN server because most of their IPs are flagged as VPN server even though they serve different purposes in Online content streaming platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Hulu. It, not Digitalocean's fault because as their service for VPN servers are so famous that content providers blocked them all. but overall A+.

DigitalOcean makes it incredibly simple to setup and manage virtual cloud servers for almost any size, scale and scope of project you have in mind. From one-off web pages to large databases, you can easily spin up and start developing without much interference, and the technical support is very strong.The pricing is also incredibly reasonable, and scales with usage.

Inconvénients :

While they make it easy, it still requires a fair amount of technical knowledge to get acquainted with the setup and terminology used ('droplets', 'applets', etc.). There is also a need to stay organized, because if you manage a lot of different projects, it can be difficult to keep everything organized.

Great solution for tech infrastructure

Avantages :

I've been using DigitalOcean for years and, despite there being a number of other platforms that offer tech infrastructure in the cloud, DO has remained my favorite. It is easy to use, the pricing schemes are transparent, the UI is a pleasure to work with. What's more, DigitalOcean's articles and guides are superb and have helped me set things up with ease, time and again. Would highly recommend.

Avantages :

I prefer using DigitalOcean if VPS server has to be used for the project and the project is big. Easy installation and setup. On the side note, I like the documentation provided by DigitalOcean.

In my point of view, this would not be suitable for the very small projects. But apart from this I do like everything.
