Excellent Product
Commentaires : Excellent
Avantages :
It is more affordable and does the same thing and the web-based functionality.
Inconvénients :
Excellent product but should include more modules.
Lexis Advance is the Second best Search Tool
Commentaires : If I wasn't using Casetext I would use this as my second choice. If I had a more broad based practice it might be good but the pricing was more mid-size firm than solo practice. and it was always increasing. it is good so I don't want this sound like it is a faulty program. for my $ I can get the same for less.
Avantages :
I subscribed to Lexis Advance for many years. I enjoyed how it was associated with a browser search style. I thought it was very good at performing a deep search and was user friendly. The basic search subscription was mid-range for pricing and for a lot of legal work was easy to assign to specific clients for reimbursement. I like the depth of the search and the library you could search from was unparalleled. itis a great program for a large firm that can afford the overhead. I had some nice features for brief drafting and Sheppard was easy
Inconvénients :
The price was too much for the amount of searching I was doing. It was cumbersome at the time for downloads and printing. I would have to pay for specialty libraries, and I could find some of those items for free with a simple google search.
Not Worth the Money
Commentaires : Just was too expensive.
Avantages :
The identifying of cases overruling parts of the decision is very good.
Inconvénients :
Almost too much emphasis cases overruling. Ended up spending a great deal of time searching through these cases only to find is was overruling some other insignificant issue.
Fine Product, Be careful
Commentaires : I was happy with the product. Customer service is not interested because they have lots of new attorneys graduating to replace you. I struggled when payments ballooned and Lexis would not work with me to get it corrected.
Avantages :
Solid product. Lexis has been in the game a long time. The product is a very good product. Top tier product and Lexis seems to work towards new products to assist with legal research
Inconvénients :
You must be very careful with the sales aspect. Read all the fine print and don't overestimate your future earnings. Usually Lexis will offer a very reduced price for a year or two but then your monthly payment balloons. If you are secure in your ability to pay then don't worry as much. I do feel it is expensive for what you really use - kind of like many phones - lots of extras that you just end up not using.
Excellent Resource for Researching Current and Historical Addresses, Phone Numbers, and Relatives
Commentaires : I mainly use Lexis as the first resource for researching addresses, phone numbers and relatives, since it is the quickest way to come up with the historical data and relationships. Then I cross verify the results with other resources.
Avantages :
The ability to look up phone numbers, current and historical addresses, and the addresses of relatives and associated persons, as well as business registration information.
Inconvénients :
Results can be messy and confusing with multiple people showing up. Filtering down is a necessity. The philanthropic searches are not as up to date or comprehensive as other software.
Great tool for research
Avantages :
I love Lexis because it is so user friendly. It feels modern and new which enables me to get my research done faster.
Inconvénients :
Sometimes there are so many tools I’m not sure which is best for my particular research need, but their reps do a great job in explaining anything needed.
Lexis, still the king of databases
Commentaires : I've used this program for 2 years managing multiple databases.
Avantages :
The search function uses very familiar Boolean and connectors. The databases are massive, and associated programs like statenet at the best in the biz.
Inconvénients :
Since the company is constantly innovating, there are features to complex to be apparent and seem to go overlooked.
Can't beat up to date case law even a steep price
Commentaires : Overall Lexis has been around and I could not imagine my law practice without its services. I highly recommend this service over the others because you get more security and services for a little more money.
Avantages :
The ability to read up to date case law and see whether courts in the future have used that same law and logic is unbeatable. I could not have the same sense of security in my client's cases without Lexis. It helps me negotiate a settlement quicker and if I can save time, then no matter the settlement I am satisfied.
Inconvénients :
The price is too high. You have to bring in clients each month to make sure you are getting your moneys worth. But I often just read cases from other courts just for fun and my personal knowledge which supplants my mild annoyance at the price for the services.
Good Product but not Better Than Cheaper Options
Commentaires : When my firm dissolved, they would not accept proof of dissolution and attempted to sue us for the full price of the contract even through we would have gone to a lesser term by default under the terms of our contract. I finally had to get a lawyer involved to resolve the issue. If they hadn't been so expensive, I may have stayed with them in my new practice.
Avantages :
Software is easy to use, has a good search engine. Natural language search is easy and typically funds results quickly, and narrowing the field is simple.
Inconvénients :
Compared to other programs this product is more expensive and is not superior for the price differential.
Wish I Still Used
Avantages :
Very powerful database. We could mail letters with more or less the push of a button.
Inconvénients :
There was not cloud support when we were using Lexis.
Best research platform.
Commentaires : Overall, Lexis Advance is my go-to research platform, and I've really benefited from the platform updates.
Avantages :
The new search bar is incredibly user friendly and intuitive. It makes starting a research project that much easier and less daunting.
Inconvénients :
It was initially difficult to get used to the look of the new platform because it hadn't changed in so long. However, once you give it a chance, it is much easier to navigate than the previous version.
Lexis Advance -- The Gold Standard in Legal Research
Commentaires : Excellent -- it saves me time and frustration when performing legal research. I can quickly get initial information when I need it!
Avantages :
I love how user friendly it is...if there's a case, statute, public record, or public record that I need when I begin to research a legal issue? I am confident that I'll find it via a Lexis Advance search. It's also very user friendly and intuitive. It saves me a TON of time digging for relevant legal information when I begin researching an issue!
Inconvénients :
Expense. For me, the expense is a bit high. I had a free account as a law student, but I have to pay for it myself now. I'm a solo practitioner, so the fee can be steep. However, because Lexis is such an invaluable tool? I pay it!
Great Product
Commentaires : I love the program and the results it gets. The information is helpful and concise. Having multiple possibilities to locate someone is wonderful.
Avantages :
I like the different search options that you can use. I also like the ability to move between possible relatives to locate someone.
Inconvénients :
I do not like that it gives you some many responses to a search. Would prefer a more limited response.
Pricey, but good for appellate work
Commentaires : The product was good and I would recommend it for a firm doing appeals. For regular trial practice, it may be more than needed.
Avantages :
This program is extremely easy to learn and use.
Inconvénients :
It was expensive and had more features than needed for the type of law our firm practices.
Great Legal Research Option
Avantages :
I find Lexis to be very easy to use while still powerful; I prefer it to most other legal research software options.
Inconvénients :
It still feels "buggy" at times; navigation ease could be improved.
Not Enough Bang for the Buck
Commentaires : The research results were fine, but Lexis overbilled me for years and wouldn't fix the problem.
Avantages :
I like the Shepardizing feature the most.
Inconvénients :
I dislike the cost of the software, especially the billing
Lexis Review
Avantages :
I like how easy it is to find cases that I am looking for to support my position.
Inconvénients :
The variety of research is sometimes lacking compared to Westlaw.
