Hop your way into Holacracy

Commentaires : I use this software multiple times per day. I started using this about 3 years ago, and the left because the interface was clunky. I used another product for about a year, and then returned. I'm implementing Holacracy at Convert.com and I LOVE the Holacracy Habits and office hours available to the team.
The team at Glass Frog from support to the dev team are super open to helping you if you need it, and they listen to your feedback, even if it's not something on the roadmap. I find the new version is even easier to use that the one we started with a year ago.

Avantages :

1. I really like the layout of the Roles and their interaction with Circles. 2. The ease to "zoom in" and "zoom out" is a nice feature. 3. The colors, font size and weight are all easy to read, and I work with this platform on a variety of devices. 4. The "i" bubbles help to clarify actions with common questions 5. Creating Governance out of Meetings is a breeze 6. Excellent integrations with Slack

Inconvénients :

It took me a bit of time to feel it was easy to use, but not a challenge.

The hub for Holacracy

Commentaires : GlassFrog has helped us adopt and stay on track with Holacracy, and Holacracy has brought us significant benefits in terms of operational clarity and consistency for our business. So we have GlassFrog to thank for helping to make that happen.

Avantages :

GlassFrog does a great job of organizing all the information needed to implement and practice the business operating system called Holacracy within your organization. It is quick and easy to look up roles, accountabilities, policies, etc. GlassFrog also makes it easy to facilitate and follow Tactical and Governance meetings, gives you helpful reminders when you need to do things like role elections, and sends out nicely formatted summary emails from every meeting with clear distinctions of which actions you are responsible for.

Inconvénients :

Much of Holacracy is about collecting and processing tensions (opportunities, requests, fixes, etc.). The actual workflow for entering tensions and surfacing them in meetings is confusing and difficult - I feel like I'm never sure what the right place is to enter them in, and they never show up where I expect during meetings; I've heard similar sentiments from our other team members. This flow could use a redesign.

Frustrating

Commentaires : So much potential, but needs to have better visibility into all roles especially for volunteer run organizations with high officer turnover.

Avantages :

This package had great potential as our organization moved to a different form of governance.

Inconvénients :

Hard to list them all, the two people that set up the software were volunteers that resigned and no one else was ever made an administrator or given training, which left us challenged from the start as there was no transparency and visibility into roles for everyone. Not intuitive, especially for people new to holacracy. We’ve had a difficult time finding documents that are needed and haven’t been able to use the software effectively at all.

Glass Frog is a god tool for a virtual non-profit

Commentaires : For a team that did not have a clear way to articulate its structure, this has been an extremely helpful tool. We now have shared language and a shared way for thinking about making organizational change. It empowers our team to make the organization function as efficiently as possible.

Avantages :

We use the free version so we like the price. It is modelled after the Holacracy book so it helps our team to function using holacracy. We appreciate the way roles, circles, meeting outputs and notes are captured transparently and shared with the larger team. It is relatively easy to use and has helped our team develop a shared language around the organizational structure. Their team and the community of practice have been quite responsive to questions about use and functionality.

Inconvénients :

Ther are some glitches like older tensions sometimes don't delete. I would like a more versatile search function (searching by roles, by accountabilities etc).

GlassFrog Review

Commentaires : GlassFrog has really been a great driver in our team embracing our new company culture. In fact, I've seen some of our employees grow as professionals after having to go through writing a role or policy. The end result is that we have a new role or policy defined in the company with the employee gaining the knowledge of strategic/critical thinking.

Avantages :

I love that the UI is so easy to work in. Very straight forward and interactive. The few times I couldn't figure out how to do something, I searched for the answer, found it, and was easy to follow.

Inconvénients :

I am a remote employee for most of our meetings. I have experienced the meeting not adjusting to the activities of the secretary from my side since I'm not screen sharing and using my own log in to track the meeting. It doesn't happen all of the time, just occasionally.

Good software for a good Holacracy practice

Commentaires : I’ve been using GlassFrog for 8 years and it is the most practicable software for a good Holacracy practice, aligning with the new version of the constitution each time.
Couldn’t envision a good and mature Holacracy practice without GlassFrog.

Avantages :

Really helpful for a good Holacracy practice with tips and rules that guides you. The habit support program is a must for any DIYer.

Inconvénients :

Navigation is sometime complicated due to the new interface.

Commentaires : Bringing together constantly changing, multidisciplinary teams in circles, so everyone knows what is going on. Thereby Roles are clear and the method and steps provided in the Glassfrog UI forces you not to wander off topic on things that are not important. It keeps you focussed.

Avantages :

- It's good for continuously changing teams, because it's easy to restructure, add or delete members from - circles. - It gives clear guidelines for structured meetings by the steps shown - It gives teams flexibility to structure each step in their own way and incorperate for example measures or checks that are important for the specific team - the UI is very intuitive and easy. Almost none superfluous buttons or possibilities. Clean.

Inconvénients :

- We don't always use the project board, because it is not the best overview. In some teams we use Trello for example, where you can add custom labels, multiple members and point projects to different topics. - Adding a spark beforehand is not the most easy option, especially in the new interface. It is hard to appoint to the right role in the right circle. - Bringing your laptop to add sparks is sometimes not the most open setting during meetings. People sometimes tend to be distracted.

Holacracy made simple

Commentaires : Very positive experience—extremely high value for the investment. Running meetings has never been smoother!

Avantages :

The paid version of GlassFrog makes life simple! Capturing agenda items, drafting proposals, making proposals asynchronously, reviewing actions and projects, etc . . . I can hardly imagine functioning in a self-organizing context without it.

Inconvénients :

I wish I could order my next actions and projects by priority.

Best supportive tool for Holacracy

Avantages :

The ease of use of managing your meetings, be it a tactical or governance, as well as being on par with Holacracy updates. In addittion Glassfrog offer continous pro-tips to improve Holacracy skillset as well as bringing new ideas into the organization. Finally the possibility to speak with an Holacracy ambassador ( AMA ) is very helpful.

Inconvénients :

Before the new UI revamp it was very difficult to navigate into circles, especially when the organization had a lot. This has luckily changed with the new UI!

Glassfrog Rocks

Avantages :

Having everything in one place, links, searchable, meeting facilitation, and policies. Essential if you use Holacracy!

Inconvénients :

I want more, they keep coming out with awesome features and I just can't wait for everything on their development agenda to be added.

Keeps projects in order and makes meetings easy

Commentaires : We mainly use it to hold meetings, record projects, and keep an up to date snapshot of the organizational structure.

Avantages :

I like that there are a number of features for tracking projects and team activities, like metrics and collecting notes and the kanban-style project review. For meetings it makes it easy to stay in the "holacracy mentality". I also like that I can easily navigate and search not only names but roles, accountabilities, or projects within the organization. It's my go-to search tool when I need to figure out "who to ask about..." I can imagine this would be very handy for anyone, and there aren't many platforms that offer it.

Inconvénients :

While it's useful to hold the place for specific projects for the purposes of updating others in meetings, it doesn't help very much when it comes to tracking your progress and activities while working on a project, especially when it's a collaborative project. There are other platforms that do that better.

Avantages :

The live-updating meetings interfaces. Omnifocus integration. Asynchronous governance proposals.

Inconvénients :

I'd really like to have a business-process centric perspective that cuts across roles and accountabilities. This is more of a feature request than a problem with the system as it is.

Makes Holacracy transparent

Avantages :

Honestly, I don't know how you could operate Holacracy without GlassFrog or something similar. The constitution is "embedded" in the way the software works. When I first set up our account for a new company, I went in to try to set up an initial basic organizational structure. It took me a minute to figure out that I coudn't do that because a Governance meeting needed to be called to make those changes - per the constitution. As Lead Link of the general circle, I can see what roles need to be filled, and the whole company has transparency into who's doing what. It's clean and easy to use.

Inconvénients :

Nothing I can think of. It's been great for us. We haven't upgraded to the pro version which would enable us to do governance proposals off-line. I'd love that to be part of the free product, but understand that there has to be some incentive to upgrade :).

Avantages :

The material is clear and easy to work with. The software gets you to where you need to go and has consistent formatting.

There are parts of the software that seem to be crowded/have too much in one section.

GlassFrog and Holacracy

Commentaires : All in all, GlassFrog has made tactical meetings as easy as possible. Holacracy as a new thing has a learning curve, as does everything of course, and GlassFrog made learning how to get the best out of tactical meetings a smooth process.

Avantages :

GlassFrog is a vital piece of software for tactical meetings, plain and simple. It helps facilitators and participants alike stay on point and move through tactical meetings efficiently and effectively.

Inconvénients :

it is a trivial thing but the "upgrade" nag popups have a hair-trigger so if you are moving your mouse over one of them you get a popup which is irritating.

Functional service with rapid speed of improvement

Commentaires : GlassFrog is a great service for Holacracy organizations. I have myself looked for other alternatives including just having a large whiteboard. But in terms of simplicity, speed and transparency among the organization, I would say GlassFrog belongs to the top tier.

Avantages :

The service is built very solid upon Holacracy. The focus is apparent on the overall experience, which really drives the users / administrators think in Holacracy way of their organization. Teams (regarded as "circles") can set their own customizable OKR / KPI, and governance rules can be easily organized and maintained throughout circles.

Inconvénients :

The learning curve of navigating through the service can be tricky sometimes. But once you get the hang of it, it becomes less of a issue but still there are times I feel it's hard to navigate to where I want. However, there have been countless UI improvements since I started using the service as a user from just several months ago. As my title says, the improvements are being implemented pretty rapidly, and I would not worry about UI issues too much when considering purchasing the service.

Avantages :

Holacracy is represented, in the necessary roles and functions, including the meetings.

Inconvénients :

There are some interaction issues, like modes that should be "spring-loaded" aren't. (work area or sorting criteria doesn't vanish after choosing...) Chosen sorting isn't remembered.

An excellent tool for Holocracy

Commentaires : We use it to conduct and structure our meetings, and also to distribute our roles within the company. It is really usefull to navigate the system and see who is holding the role that you were looking for.

Avantages :

The possibility of assigning different roles to people right in the meetings without having to do everything later on. Having a scratchpad and also having the posibility to save your ideas for tensions in your own agenda

Inconvénients :

Difficult to assign tasks to people when they are related to some triage issues in case that secreaty and facilitator are not the same person (which usually is)

Commentaires : I love that, no really, it's kind of fun and pro at the same time!

Avantages :

Make transparent the company I work with. Feeling of safety, honesty and trust with developers and shareholders. Everything is in its place and very simple software reading. And I really like being able to know what each of my colleagues have as a service to offer

Inconvénients :

I would like the software to automatically connect to French when I open it. The map is visually very beautiful and intuitive enough, I would like that there is also the options to move and zoom. There is something I do not understand with "agenda items". Once in two it does not work well and I think the difference should be made between triage and governance meetings.

Great for supporting holacracy

Avantages :

The software supports the features we need to support our org structure and related processes and it is matched very well to those needs. I'm not sure how else we would do it without this software. The user interface is pretty good, I can access most features through mobile as well, and the folks that support it are responsive.

Inconvénients :

Sometimes I run into features or areas that I think can be improved, and some of those requests are on the roadmap. Occasionally I run into bugs but nothing has been a major showstopper.

Commentaires : I liked working with glass frog. It was used friendly.

Avantages :

I like the organization chart. I like that I can write the description of any role and others can click on it and see the description.

Inconvénients :

Some roles within each circle had to be filled by way of an election according to the software. I believe all features must be options that can be chosen. I felt forced rather having features to choose. I didnt like the random nature of the circle sizes and the way the circle names would end up on top of other names of sub circles. I am a graphic designer, so I wanted more control over the chart.

Good visuals for organizing, not enough functionality

Commentaires : We've mostly stopped using this software for the time being -- learning curve and difficulty of tools during onboarding new members ends up costing us more time than it's worth.

Avantages :

The use of circles for organizing and prioritizing responsibilities is the best around, if you're a visual thinker like myself.

Inconvénients :

Onboarding folks, finding tools in the menus, basic UX is not intuitive or even helpful in practice.
