Maxqda for Qualitative Dissertations

Avantages :

WOW! There is so much functionality with this software. The display of data is very professional looking and helps students create beautiful charts and graphs using their data.

Inconvénients :

It is rather expensive and I would like to find some software that offers a very low cost student edition. Our students are not going to be doing a lot of research as some doc students as they are leaders in public schools. Purchasing an expensive product doesn't make sense. I wish it was easier to learn but, I honestly have not been able to spend the time digging into it as I would like.

Most feature rich QDA application for the price. An essential tool for oganizations of all sizes.

Commentaires : The software offers excellent search features can quickly locate terms or combinations of terms and codes, and automatically add codes according to the user's specifications. I originally used it for work with non-profits and for academic ethnographic research. Now in my work as an analyst, I use MAXQDA to identify relevant information and references to programs and policies in a huge database of research reports.
MAXQDA is powerful tool for analysis and creating research audit trails in any research environment whether in private industry, government or academia.

Avantages :

The interface is very easy to understand which makes the software highly intuitive. Its layout and options for coding text and assigning attributes to documents makes it a very flexible tool that is very useful to academic and policy analysts working in the private sector and government. For the past 3 years, I have found a wide range of uses for MAXQDA including cataloguing and building connections between documents on our research department's harddrive, to assisting a local arts organization interlink video, photo and text for an archival project.

Inconvénients :

The lack of a portable version that can be run from a USB key which would allow users to easily move among their own devices in the office, at home, or in the field. Restrictive licensing and the trend towards leasing is not conducive to long-term projects and data accessibility.

MAXQDA is the sexiest software for your qual analysis you can only imagine!

Commentaires : I made my PhD dissertation entirely on MAXQDA, and my process of writing the dissertation is not possible to imagine without MAXQDA. It helped me to stay inspired during all these 4 years, which had been challenging for many reasons.

Avantages :

exceptionally user-friendly and sexy software for QUAL research! It has all you need and indeed inspires the process of engaging with the data.

Inconvénients :

There are some bugs after the updates, but they are fixed by the team regularly

Ease of coding, but a bit confusing

Commentaires : I was able to analyze qualitative data from interviews in one spot. It allowed me to visualize my codes which helped me with writing up my studies.

Avantages :

Once you have created a qualitative code, the software makes it really easy to assign codes to transcripts. It has a lot of online tutorials, and there are a lot of different tools to use to analyze your data once it is coded.

Inconvénients :

I found it a bit confusing to use the software to organize the data once all of the data is coded. There are supposedly a ton of functions that allow you to organize the data, yet, even with doing the online, it still felt difficult to me. The functionality is great, but the usability still needs to improve.

A Constantly Evolving Data Analysis Software

Commentaires : I have used and watched the Software ant the development of it since 2013, from the late to the last most up to date versions. An expanding develpopment of functionalities, graphics and tool improvements gave me better understanding for the qualitative research that wasn't possible for me before. With the use of MAXQDA I have entered in a new era of research possibilities.

Avantages :

The plethora of tools that software provides the research community.

Inconvénients :

From the start I'm excited with all the possibilities of the software so I can't say that there would be a feature, tool or function in MAXQDA software that I like the least.

Review of Maxqda

Avantages :

I like coding on documents by integrating them into the program. Adding memo while coding is also a good practice. At the same time, it is nice that the program includes data collection tools of the qualitative data analysis method. In particular, it is a nice convenience to extract twitter data. Except that, the variety of language support and the ability to do these in my own language make this program stand out.

Inconvénients :

While coding, there is an interface on the left that I think is very restrictive. I would like to be able to work more comfortably, but there is a part of the program where I can only put the main theme and sub-themes one after the other as allowed. While coding documents, I can learn what I encoded in which document when I open it in detail. Apart from that, the codes can be mixed with each other. Another issue here is that I experienced when converting to a table after coding. It says which code and how many times I use it, but I would like to see the paragraphs under the code in the same way. I think the program is confusing, especially during analysis. I also think that including quantitative analysis in the qualitative analysis program is not within the scope of the program. Except, twitter data can only be pulled for one week. I know that Twitter does not allow this, but it would be appropriate to make a separate agreement and choose a wider date range. Apart from all these, there are too many freezing programs during the processing of multidimensional data in the program. Saving is also very difficult. Here, there is a problem with dimensions, especially in studies where document analysis is carried out.

Worth every penny

Commentaires : I am a PhD researcher and though my university gives me free access to NVivo, I choose to use my own funds to pay for MaxQDA because of the amazing product that it is. It is so easy and such a pleasure to use.

Avantages :

I expected to have a high learning curve but it was amazingly 'plug and play' - I was up and running, coding and doing analysis without even reading the manual. Very user friendly.

Inconvénients :

I haven't found anything I disliked yet. I can't believe how intuitive it is and all the autosaving has saved me a few times.

A great tool for researchers

Research experience with Maxqda

Commentaires : My overall experience has been quite positive. I plan to use this software in my future work. I recommend the program to my students and colleagues around me.

Avantages :

Maxqda's favorite side was its user-friendly interface. It didn't take me long to learn to use the program. You can perform similar functions in many different ways, and creative solutions have been provided for us to perform them in the easiest way possible. Integration with transcription software was another plus for me.

Inconvénients :

When I tried to do Twitter analysis, I was able to get data for a fairly short time. It will be useful if this feature is improved. It would be very nice to be able to extract data especially for certain periods in the past. In terms of data visualization, it would be beneficial to make user-friendly improvements, especially in features such as the code-subcode theory model.

Tool was once the best on the market: not anymore

Commentaires : At the beginning of my master's degree, I tested MaxQDA as an alternative to carry out the analysis of qualitative data from my research, and concluded that there were alternative tools that suited me better.

Avantages :

Its use is widespread. The suite of features it offers is really very complete.

Inconvénients :

Collaboration with the tool is precarious. It is not available for Linux, nor does it have a web version, only Desktop for Windows. It is undeniable that MaxQDA has a large amount of features, meeting the demand for qualitative data analysis, especially text coding, etc. However, competitors are rapidly gaining ground, so I don't consider MaxQDA to be a good option at the moment.

Avantages :

La cantidad de formas de anotación y códigos disponibles incluidos los emojis. A pesar de la cantidad de herramientas disponibles con poco entrenamiento es fácil de dominarlo y aprovechar todas sus características. El hecho de integrar metodologías cualitativas, cuantitativas y mixtas en un mismo software hace un básico para cualquier investigador o estudiante de posgrado.

Inconvénients :

Nada, todo ha sido favorable, además agradezco que exista la opción de pagos para estudiantes que hacen que desde el inicio de sus carreras académicas puedan desarrollar investigaciones de alto valor.

Software versátil y fácil de utilizar para trabajo con datos cualitativos

Commentaires : Principalmente lo he utilizado para enseñar los procesos y pasos que conlleva una investigación de corte cualitativo, me ha sido sumamente útil ya que permite exportar los proyectos a versiones anteriores, lo cual facilita aún más el aprendizaje colaborativo con los estudiantes.

Avantages :

Permite un fácil aprendizaje de su uso, es sumamente intuitivo de utilizar. Ideal para principiantes y expertos en el quehacer de la investigación cualitativa. Tiene la capacidad de manejar grandes cantidades de documentos sin que se vea afectada la velocidad del sistema operativo (RAM, GPU).

Inconvénients :

Aunque cuenta con una gran variedad de herramientas que facilitan el proceso de análisis de datos cualitativos, al momento de establecer relaciones entre códigos, estas relaciones se tienen que realizar cada en cada ocasión que trabajemos con los MAXMaps, a diferencia del software ATLAS.ti que las mantiene en todo momento.

Useful for social media research with caveats

Commentaires : So far, it has proved to be a valuable CAQDAS software, especially for social media research.

Avantages :

MAXQDA's integrated Twitter data importation function is extremely useful for conducting qualitative analysis of Twitter data; the feature itself is very easy to use right out of the box and the hashtag autocoding function is also good. The creative coding board is good for intuitive 'brain-map' style code diagramming and linkages as well.

Inconvénients :

The actual coding process can be unintuitive and has a steep learning curve. Additionally, cleaning Twitter data after using the integrated import tool is difficult to impossible to do with any ease. Knowing that, I recommend making sure your search query is as narrow and precise as you need it to be before doing any imports.

Auswertung für Masterarbeit mit Transkripten

Commentaires : MAXQDA ist das beste Auswertungstool von Transkripten, was ich je genutzt habe. Ich bin sehr begeistert über die zahlreichen Funktionen und kann es nur jedem/jeder weiterempfehlen! Einzig und allein sind für mich die Preise bzw. Laufzeiten unpassend.

MAXQDA Qualitative Software

Commentaires : Software is very worth the cost compared to some of the other qualitative research softwares out there. Capability-wise, it has as much if not more functionality of similar software, but it is not the easiest to learn, but for large projects, can definitely get used to it.

Avantages :

Very effective software I used for qualitative research. There is a lot of functions with this software: 1) We coded various types of documents by using both text highlighting and click and drag boxes for pdfs, images, html, and many other types of documents. 2) I was coding with a team, so we could both code the same batches of documents to calibrate our coding together, seeing them side-by-side as well as divide the documents between the two of use within the same file.

Inconvénients :

The user interface of this software leaves a lot to desire. The features are there, but it might take a while or not be intuitive to find. One such example is not knowing how to automatically organize coding folders until a couple weeks into using the software.

All in one for qualitative and mixed research

Commentaires : I used MAXQDA in my master's thesis and doctoral research. I have been working with this software for many years, recommending and teaching this software to other researchers.

Avantages :

Alongside the analysis tool and functions, MAXQDA's user-interface perfectly satisfies the concept of "user friendly".

Inconvénients :

Although it offers some services and features for teamwork, I think it should now also work entirely on cloud environment.

Love MAXQDA for Qualitative Analysis

Commentaires : I used MAXQDA for academic research and analysis. It made my life easier when it was time for methodology, results, and findings. I would highly recommend this software if you have a lot of qualitative research to do and/or if you are a PhD student/candidate.

Avantages :

It works well with Apple computers ,almost seamlessly. It does a great job with coding my qualitative interviews and helping me to find themes, etc. I also can trust that my findings and codes are safe.

Inconvénients :

If you aren't a student scholar, the cost can be expensive. Also, at first glance, it's quite daunting, but once you understand all of the pieces, it's a fantastic software. Lastly, I had a few scares with my research in MAXQDA because it appeared that some codes were not saved, but after a few minutes and sometimes, exiting and re-entering, they were actually saved.

Leicht zu bedienendes Programm mit vielfältigen Funktionen

Avantages :

Leicht zu bedienen, viele Funktionen, die man nutzen kann, aber nicht nutzen muss. Bei Bedarf sehr unterstützender Support. Laufend Updates mit neuen Funktionen (inkl. Erklärvideos).

Inconvénients :

Noch mehr Funktionen als ich kenne und nutze (verpasste Chance?)

Avantages :

Para buscar temas de importancia para los entrevistados es bastante útil, así puedes mejorar las estrategias de atención.

Inconvénients :

No cuenta con una versión web para el trabajo colaborativo y la herramienta de TeamCloud requiere que todos los usuarios cuenten con una licencia.
