Commentaires : This is one of the best cloud backup solutions I've used, and I've used several. As an added bonus, it's very competitively priced to others on the market.

Avantages :

Downloading the software, installing it, setting it up, and getting it started were all very easy and straight forward. One of the biggest selling points for iDrive was the value of the product compared to current competitors. I have a considerable amount of data stored on my computer for my business and school, and wanted a way to back up my hard drive without buying more physical equipment.

Inconvénients :

The first back up took considerably longer than a few other services I've used, with the same internet connection and similiar data size. However, I let the backup run overnight and it was ready to go by morning!

Good, but with caveats

Commentaires : Good solution for large backups if upload speed isn't an issue (and if you don't mind the slightly clunky interface).

Avantages :

Very affordable for the storage you get. Easy to set up on Windows and Mac.

Inconvénients :

The upload speed is poor, and does not appear to use the full network bandwidth. On Windows, backups sometimes fail because of a "Service Control Manager" setting (this can be fixed but it is a faff). The Cloud Drive is not a virtual drive (there is no way to offload files to the cloud to save on local storage space.

iDrive is a life saver

Commentaires : I've been using iDrive for 6 years and I can't count the times it has saved me. The ability to access your files anywhere has really helped me not only when I'm missing something when I travel but also when working with 2 or more computers. You just download the file from the other computer backup and you're good to go. I prefer this over Dropbox or Google Drive because I don't have to work on a specific folder for it to backup, I just organize my files the way I need and then tell iDrive which folders to backup. It's one of my most important tools for my workflow. It also has Archive Cleanup so when you delete data from your computer it also deletes from the cloud, which helps keeping the storage free and having a true backup with no old files. iDrive + Time Machine is a complete and secure backup.

I really wanted to like it...

Commentaires : I really wanted to like IDrive and was really hoping this was the solution for me. I have since tried backing up 2TB of my laptop to both Google and Dropbox, and each of those providers have had serious issues in their context.

Avantages :

The option for them to ship me a drive in which I can backup directly and ship back was a really nice feature. Sadly, thats about the best I can say.

Inconvénients :

Backing up 2TB directly to an external hard drive is still going to take several hours. Well, for me it was 11 hours which is fine. So much better than the days it would have taken over the internet. I was expecting a smooth experience and was sad when it didnt happen. First, about 9 hours into the backup, I needed to reboot my laptop. I went into the IDrive app and paused the backup, then rebooted. After it starting back up, there was nothing to resume. It required me to start a new full backup. Resuming an existing backup is not rocket science. I contacted technical support, and they were responsive only to acknowledge that I needed to do another back up. So now on the second day, thats what I did. Per instructions, I went to eject the drive and my Mac was complaining that it was still be accessed my option was to force eject. So I decided to simply reboot again thinking a force eject is not a good path. Now, when it restarted, the drive came back and following the instructions again, I went to confirm the backup. To my surprise, it only listed two of the five folders. Yikes! Back to the support person and they told me to re-index the database using the idrive app. After another 9 hours the re-indexing finished an indeed the backup looked correct. I went to eject and again it was complaining the an app was still using the drive, leaving me with the option to force eject. I ran some command on the terminal and it showed that the IDriveDaemon was the culprit, so I did a kill -2 on it hoping for a clean shutdown, and then was able to eject. Just wow is all I can say. No warm and fuzzy, or confident feeling here. So I shipped the drive back and am waiting to be notified that I can resume backing up my laptop. Another feature that is very rudimentary and really questionable - I needed to share a file that was on the Cloud-Drive. IDrive uses a password to access the file, so yeah. I get to email the link and the password rather than an access control based on email of who I am sharing. So yeah, that is not ideal, especially after using Google Drive or even Dropbox.

iDrive for peace of mind!

Good experiance of IDrive

Commentaires : Very good. I have had no problems running it on Windows 7 64bit, setup quick and simple, off we go ! Whereas Dropbox and OneDrive are a huge pain getting them to function on older 64bit windows.

Avantages :

Very easy to use. Works well with older 64 bit windows, easy to set up, intuitive interface, also integrates with Android well. Certainly works better than MS OneDrive for me, much much better.

Inconvénients :

A little slow to upload, but then I am shifting TB of data to get the backup setup so overall I think that is to be expected

Avantages :

Easy to use...moderately priced...great Tech Support...Easy to back-up your entire Desktop, including all operating programs, Photos, C-Drive, all Documents, etc.

There are not "cons"...It is so much better than "Microsoft One-Drive".

iDrive is the best for MacOS file backup and cloud storage.

Commentaires : Pricing is very good, providing better value per byte than its main competitors.
It does exactly what it says on the box and it does it both smoothly and logically, with a GUI that doesn't take a week to come to terms with.

Avantages :

iDrive is great to save important photos, videos and documents. For the price point it's very reasonable; you have little to lose! Uploading speeds are great and layout is simple and uncomplicated!

Inconvénients :

MacOS interface could have a better layout.

Good alternative for home Windows 11 backup

Avantages :

Simple to deploy. Straightforward user interface. Nice windows app, web app, and mobile app experience. Like that I can see thumbnails of pictures in web and mobile app.

Inconvénients :

Continuous Data Protection doesn't work on external drives. I have all my OneDrive data stored on an external SSD drive and CDP doesn't work with it. So, I'm reliant only on scheduled backups. Not a deal breaker, but would have liked to have that capability. I wish there was a little more flexibility in the scheduling windows. It's a bit clunky on how it creates backup jobs and what you can edit for them.

My "go to" cloud backup service!

Commentaires : From the currently available cloud backup services I tried IDrive is definitely my "go to" for personal use, based on the amount of storage on offer, relative ease of use and overall good value for the price.

Avantages :

The amount of storage, quick server speeds when backing up large files.

Some of the available functions/settings not easy to find within the interface

Avantages :

I was captivated by the iDrive model being a simple way to backup and store documents in the cloud. The app that you download made it easy to set up which folders and drives to back up, as well as how to schedule the backups. I was amazed at the amount of space provided for the price.

Inconvénients :

There aren't many cons. It would be great to have the ability to mount iDrive and use it with apps such as Chronosync, but that's not necessary and I recognize that also helps keep the costs down.

Convenient and Easy Solution to a Critical Task.

Commentaires : I've been running iDrive for a week and have seen no hiccups. I will be running a test to see how easily I can do a restore.

Idrive is great

Commentaires : I have been using Idrive for years now on other pc's and I have told all my friends and family to use idrive. It's simple to use, easy to set up and simple to acess all your files. You can also have a cloud drive on your pc with files you access most and they are always backed up, so for me this is all I need, and I never had any issues with Idrive.

Avantages :

I like that it's easy to use, have a simple way to backup and access my files, I like how easy it is to use. I tried other companies, but after a year or two it was so costly, I could not afford those other places, and they were never this simple. took forever to get my files back

Inconvénients :

For me, I have not had any issues with Idrive, I think it's worth the money and simple to use, so for me I have no cons about Idrive.

Simple, reliable, effective, and non-intrusive

Commentaires : Ever since i purchased my Mac Airbook, I have had to keep all my important source code on an external drive because there is not enough room on the main drive. Seeing that external drive just lying out there on the desk next to my workstation, it has always concerned me about what would happen if that drive died. I have most of my source on versioning systems, but not all, and not useful tools and items like that. Since I put iDrive in and have it backing that drive up, I have had zero worries. Now I know my whole system can be nuked out of existence, and I wont lose a thing. That is peace of mind.

Avantages :

Idrive covers alot of bases for me. I can select individual folders as well as external drives for backups. I can do schedules that just work in the background. Doesnt have any spinners or windows or anything that says "Hey look at me! Im doing something.". It just quietly works in the background, however it is nice to see the once a day message saying, "All done!" and that gives me peace of mind. To top it all off, they provide a cloud sync'd folder so any one off files and special case scenarios I run up against, I can just use that drive and it just works. IDrive cares about performance too. Unlike Google Drive, it does not max out my processor when it is working. In fact, it knows when I am working and will reduce its usage so not to bother me, but when I am away, it will take advantage of that and speed up the backups so it can finish as soon as it can. Very smart.

Inconvénients :

Logs could use some help. The log summary list could use a little more detail. It would be nice if the log details were presented in a data grid format so sorting and grouping could be done so you can do things like look at all the Errors together without having to pick them out through all the other messages. At least provide the log in an XLS format so Excel can handle it.

Great value, easy to get set up

Commentaires : The product was really easy to set up and configure. I have a couple of machines that are being backed up. One of these is a linux box, and for some reason you have to go via the idrive support team in order to get the software and instructions for running on linux. I'm being selective about the data that's backed up, so I'm not using lots of storage, but I have plenty of headroom in the plan if required. Overall, a great service that would be perfect with a few minor tweaks and polish.

Avantages :

Easy to set up, great value for money. Once set up, don't have to think about it very much at all.

Inconvénients :

Web UI and backup process could be faster. It's a shame that full drive image backup is only available on PC. I did read some stories of people going over their limits and being charged relatively large amounts for doing so. Whilst I'm nowhere near my limits and being careful about this, I feel a more ethical approach would be to halt backups at this point and inform the users in question to upgrade their plans or reduce their usage. Being picky now, but the UI could probably do with a bit of polish!
