Formerly TurboLaw Billing Software

Commentaires : I have a negative attitude towards Leap in general because they interfered with the "good thing" I had with TurboLaw. I had several long telephone calls with Leap representatives to review all the functions that Leap has to offer, and I found that it was always much more than I was looking for in software for my small firm. I was very disappointed when Leap purchased TurboLaw and drastically increased the price without any grandfathering for existing TurboLaw customers.

Avantages :

I really liked this billing system. I found that it was not overly complicated to use, and it had all the functionality I needed (plus some additional functions that I could have used, but didn't venture into). The billing software was previously TurboLaw before Leap purchased it, and the price was very reasonable for the product provided - reasonable monthly fee for relatively simple software base.

Inconvénients :

When Leap purchased TurboLaw they more than tripled the monthly fee after just a few months. At that point, I went searching for a new billing system because it was too expensive for my small firm, and in my opinion, too expensive for what it had to offer. As a solo practitioner, I did not need anything fancy or expansive, and unfortunately Leap took this option away from me when they purchased TurboLaw.

Good product terrible support and aggressive pricing

LEAP has developed a good product, but it has not committed the resources required to support it, so if a technical issue does arise the time to resolve is significant.
Practice Consultants are promoted by LEAP, but in reality, only promote additional add on products.

Avantages :

The product is mature and provides a complete law practice package including document storage, time reading, billing, trust accounting and matter management. Remote access is available and there are nice mobile app features available.

Inconvénients :

Alot of functionality is heavily promoted in LEAP marketing materials but requires additional premium third-party licenses. LEAP has a rigid pricing structure. There are no categories for admin staff vs fee earners etc. This means you must purchase a full license including precedent subscription for every staff member including casual and part-time staff. Technical support has declined dramatically in the past 6 months. We have waited over a week to have a support ticket acknowledged. Matter remains unresolved two weeks later. There is no transparent ticketing system for technical error. You are pushing onto the online chat which currently has wait times over an hour and the end result is to lodge a support ticket. Implementation was poorly handled with poor communication.

Commentaires : My experience with LEAP has been wonderful. There has never been a time that I have reached out that someone has not helped me. They really have been patient and kind with me.

Avantages :

There are so many things I like about leave. It really is hard to pick one thing. I would say being able to do almost everything through LEAP. I also love being able to work at home when I need too. It's GREAT!

Inconvénients :

I know that they are continuing to work on this issue, but getting forms for our State and making different types of Law this is more familiar with our office. For example we do a lot of mediation.

Best Legal Software Around!

Avantages :

LEAP is excellent for automating documents so that you don't have to waste time typing in generic information that is in all your documents and letters. It is excellent to keep all your documents in one place on each matter and if you are in court, the phone app is a must! Making the switch from our outdated practice management software to LEAP was the best decision for our practice!

Inconvénients :

If you are a volume practice, invoicing by matter becomes a bit overwhelming, but it's just something you have to get used to. Being that it's cloud based software, you also have to wait some time for documents to load.

The idea is there but the follow-through needs some work

Commentaires : Overall Leap is a mixed bag. While the features they do have are robust. Several of the features that are advertised are not operational for US clients.I'm also concerned, and that you are required to stay in a trial period for "6 months" from the date of installation. And in order to be "eligible" to cancel the contract, you also have to have every user "actively engaged" with the software for the entire six month period or you can't be released from the contract. I should have realized that any entity that requires a mandatory "trial" period has a reason. This is very disheartening, because I honestly think in 4 or 3 years the software may be usable.All in all I feel like LEAP CRM over promises but under performs, and the lengthy duration of the trial period strongly indicates that they are aware of the problems.

Avantages :

The contact and matter cards are the best part of the CRM.

Inconvénients :

I disliked that several of the advertised features were not actually included once I already signed into a multi-year contract. Under the contract we were supposed to have immediate access to the client portal, it took over 6 weeks for the portal to be "setup." This resulted in a weird state of limbo regarding the transition. I also had concerns that they advertised a workflow procedure, but once we tried to use the workflow we were informed that it was only available in the UK, and no one could provide an estimate regarding when it would be available in the US. I'm also concerned that they require a third party to install the applications. Although the installation took about 15 minutes for each computer, the installer stayed active in one our firm computers for over 12 hours. When we asked about this potential data breach concern, no one followed up with us for weeks, then we were told "its ok nothing happened." That is a serious data breach issue.

Easy to use

Avantages :

The program is easy to use. It allows all of us to work from remote locations and still be able to work on the same client matter.

Inconvénients :

The number of steps necessary to implement some of the features is frustrating. I feel that some of the steps are unnecessary and that there should be a simpler way. I also find it hard to find some of the answers to questions and find myself reaching out via email to the tech support team frequently.

This product has made working from home possible.

Avantages :

This software manages my practice for billing, filing, document preparation and scheduling. It is easy to use and worth every penny. There are a number of tie in programs that work well with LEAP, like website management, appointment scheduling, and court filing, which make LEAP the only system I need to run my practice. Having it all accessible on my phone is a major bonus.

Inconvénients :

Discounting billing is a bit counter-intuitive.

Great before you sign up, but no support should there be a problem...check out Leap Community. They lured me back with a discounted fee and then raised it by 50% for the new term so we left...they don't have a monopoly anymore!

Commentaires : It has been a nightmare - this program is not done and it was misrepresented from the start as to how it works. You cant trust anything it tells you and it certainly is not a time saver.

More user friendly than PCLAW in terms of being able to locate info regarding a client

Unhappy customer

Commentaires : NONE. In addition, loading LEAP on our computers has slowed their functionality and the attorneys hate it!

Nothing. I've been in this business over 45 years. Most difficult software I have ever used

Inconvénients :

Your "support" and I use that term loosely, is horrific. There is only one "consultant" who ever knows how to fix anything. Unless I get that guy, it's pretty much over. Consultants are obviously talking to 3 and 4 people at the same time they are "chatting" with me and it takes forever for them to respond. God forbid it has to go to a higher authority. It takes days to get anyone to call back.

Cumbersome

Avantages :

Billing and Time Accounting are mostly easy to use; SOME of the templates are easy to use

Inconvénients :

The system is very cumbersome overall, not intuitive, have to save and close everything before finishing a task and then have to reopen the matter; financial statements are not in proper order for court (doesn't allow footnotes); too many steps to complete a simple task (ie adding interest to an invoice, etc)

Helpful tool to be able to access cases on the go.

Avantages :

The ability to view documents from remote locations and automatic time saving when creating a document.

Inconvénients :

Some of the templates are unnecessarily cumbersome to use and can take a while to load. The updates for each template that I open seems unnecessary as well. A single update each day or week would be more appropriate.

Not quite sold

Commentaires : There was not sufficient training to get up and running. Thankfully, customer service is readily available and, for the most part, easy to work with.
From the office management side, I believe PC Law does a better job of handling billing and accounting. At this point, I am still learning the system and making adjustments, so, hopefully, I will gain some appreciation going forward.
We are a small firm located in Iowa. I don't think some of the features/selling points apply to a) a small firm and b) an Iowa firm - for example: why isn't Probate or Estate a choice for Matter Type?

Avantages :

Customer support is top notch - accessible and knowledgeable. LEAP does a nice job of organizing clients and allowing us to search for clients. I appreciate that all documents can be saved right in the matter and that emails sent from within the program are saved in the matter. We are a smaller firm, so there are several features that we don't need/use. Balancing the trust account is a breeze!

Inconvénients :

I would like a client's phone number to be more readily accessible. Why can't it be displayed on the Details & Correspondence tab when the matter opens? I prefer to have the billing and accounting in one place. While on the surface, it seems a nice feature to "push" to QuickBooks online, it is confusing as LEAP is pushing transactions while QBO is pulling transactions from the bank account. Balancing the operating account is cumbersome and time consuming. While I appreciate being able to save emails in the matter, I don't like that it saves EVERY reply or forward thereafter. I should be able to choose whether or not the ensuing emails are saved.

from an Accountants perspective

Commentaires : We were looking to change our legal software, i researched approx 10 suppliers & narrowed it down to 3. I then took these 3 to the Partners, we finally decided to go with Leap. they are a multinational company & after speaking to several of the people who gave testimonies on the Leap website we decided they were probably giving an honest evaluation of their experience with the Leap software.
One of the things i really liked about Leap from an Accountant's point of view is that they are a cloud based system which meant we could decommission our mainframe computers & close our i.t dept which had their own separate premises, so obviously the cost saving was enormous. Also Leap were cheaper than our previous software supplier & are paid monthly which helps with the cash flow situation.
Keith Park prior to fixed fees were a very big company & we wanted to transport 10 years of old data into Leap, so it was a massive amount of data, this went like a dream & the staff at Leap were very helpful in this process.
Finally i think another big advantage with Leap is that they don't pretend to have their own accounting system, our previous supplier did but it was useless!! Leap team up with Xero accounting software, this is another multinational company which is very popular, easy to use & costs only £28p.m

Leap - excellent product and ease of use

Commentaires : Starting up with Leap and doing the change over was stressful, I would suggest that anyone who is changing to Leap would keep their old Case Management licence running for at least 3 months after the change over in case there is something that has been brought across incorrectly it just helps. When we started with Leap we did this and it worked out perfectly for us. Once we transferred over we got all the help and training we needed from Leap which was great and is on-going. Using Leap is very easy and we are planning on updating our training soon just to get to grips with the new options available in Leap. I have to say the support with Leap is brilliant, you can go on the Leap website/community page and put in your problem there and if there isn't a solution in that you can just email Leap support and they will be back to you, most times within the day but sometimes the next day but they are great at helping us.

Avantages :

When using the case management it is so easy to use from start to finish on a file, opening, setting up folders, using precedents, setting up cards for businesses and people. Also when posting funds received or disbursed is so easy and using it in conjunction with Xero for Office Accounts.

Inconvénients :

The only negative I would say is that there is no option for a telephone message on a Client's file. I have been directed to use the New Comment tab but this isn't at all helpful for telephone messages, you fill them in and they "eventually" get to the person they are for, also the notifications come up for everyone in everyone's notification lists which is time wasting. In our business Telephone Messages are critical to receive immediately and if there was a proper tab for Telephone Messages on a Client's file which would flash up to the fee earner that would be better as they would immediately know about the call and also it would be recorded on the file

Integration of Case Management & Practice Management in an Exceptional product.

Commentaires : Given the fact that I did not have a strong background in practice and case management, the support for LEAP and the built in features that bolster communication, accuracy and financial management has been priceless in getting me quickly up to speed.
LEAP's evolving platform continues to give us deep confidence in our data integrity, financial management, case management and overall communication within the organization and our clients.

Avantages :

My favorite feature in LEAP is the ability to manage trust accounts with accuracy and complete compliance with IOLTA standards. The integration with Quickbooks has eliminated the need for duplicate entries which increases accuracy and guarantees the integrity of the data. Also, LEAP's numerous features that facilitate communication (notes, e-mail tracking, phone logs, calendar) allow for any user to access the program and be able to get a real-time status of the matter. LEAP's support system is another favorite feature. I can chat with support, open a case, schedule support or research through LEAP University and the Community pages.

Inconvénients :

Occasional failures in bulk printing and contact management can be frustrating.

Disappointing

Avantages :

The software has potential. What it is trying to do is good.

Inconvénients :

The software slowed down my system. It did not integrate well with MS Outlook, MS Word, and Adobe Acrobat. It had multiple glitches, and the LEAP software deactivated features I used in MS Office and Adobe. The sales representative gave me the impression I could try the software and cancel at anytime if I was dissatisfied, but this turned out to be false. After hours spent trying to use the product, and several hours of customer support calls over several weeks, the software could not perform better than the simple system I had created for myself using MS Office and Adobe. I am a tech-savvy person, and LEAP customer service often told me they were learning things from me and that they were working on adding the features that I needed. Even after spending several weeks getting LEAP up and running and speaking with customer service, LEAP still had multiple technical glitches and was causing me to spend more time rather than less time. Therefore, I asked to cancel LEAP. To my surprise, LEAP told me I was locked into a 3-year agreement. LEAP refuses to cancel the agreement before 3 years are completed and is requiring monthly payments despite my multiple requests to cancel it. Upon closer examination, I discovered the LEAP contract has several hidden terms, and the sales representative actively deceives you into thinking the contract says something different from what it actually says.

Program ia good, renewal is shady

Commentaires : I liked the software up until I had to renew. I had a few glitched along the way no big deal. My contract was with LEAP and was taken out of my account monthly. When I went to renew my contract, I was never told that the renewal was being farmed out to a third party finance company. I found out when I got an alert on my credit, I looked into it and contacted them who told me that this was for my LEAP renewal. Now some financial company who I have no idea about has my banking information because LEAP gave it to them, I get numerous emails from them trying to sell me services. DO not get involved with this company. They are not transparent and to my belief are devious.

Avantages :

At first it was good, helps a lot but the renewal is the problem

Inconvénients :

I liked the software up until I had to renew. the renewal was inappropriate and possibly fraudulent.

A practical and flexible product

Avantages :

We moved case management systems to Leap as part of an overall review of our IT systems. Using it in conjunction with Office 365 meant that we very easily had the tools at hand to adapt to remove working during the Covid-19 pandemic. The app and online versions are a helpful back up way to access content if away from the office. One of the most useful things we gained by switching to Leap was the opportunity to search in document content - not just in a matter, but throughout the whole database. The option to run reports and for all staff to have access to key reports is also very helpful.

Inconvénients :

As with any system, there are some quirks that you have to get used to understanding. It can also sometimes feel a little disjointed when it comes to seeking IT support in that the first port of call is a chat assist box, rather than a telephone number that you can call.

Our experience in choosing LEAP

Commentaires : Leap has centralised all our systems and enable us all to work remotely. Whilst we are still not paper free we are using much less paper. We are adapting and learning new ways all the time.

Avantages :

We liked the fact that LEAP was used by other firms and we had heard good reports. We had never used case management before and it was good to bring all departments together.

Inconvénients :

The thing we like least is the accounts system Xero, there was very little support and the ongoing support is minimal. The actual conversion was quite challenging as we were trying to fit our old ways of working into the new ways of LEAP. It wasn't really until lockdown and working from home that LEAP became a blessing for us, and now we all love it.

LEAP with an Apple MacBook Air

Commentaires : My renewal of this contract was appalling. I was told that I could use my iCloud emails so that is why I renewed so that I could just manage one email. The LEAP consultant told me I could use IMAP. This is not the case. I have tried to cancel my contract and they will only cancel my contract if I pay out the full 3 year contract renewal.

Avantages :

Consider it very carefully if you use a MAC.

Inconvénients :

They should be clear that iCloud emails are not supported. They tell me it is ok but no one can help me and I am meant to pay out a 3 year contract and manage two emails. See the assistance that has taken 6 months for me to receive........ With regards to the first point being virtual box, to utilise LEAP with the Mac environment you will have to go through Virtual Box or Parallels Desktop as they are the best way to go. If you wish to use a Windows environment only, then a program such as BootCamp would be more suitable (this is also technically better on a performance base). With regards to the icloud email, I have been doing some research on this for you. There is a way to add it to the outlook program that is quite manual and does look like your IT Consultant attempted this for you with no success. Additionally, on more research I see that icloud utilises an IMAP process not POP3. Unfortunately, IMAP is not supported with LEAP and there will be issues connecting this to LEAP. Not much use to run a business!

Thank you for reviewing LEAP. We take every firm through the software based on the setup. LEAP works with Parallels to use both systems. Office365 Business Premium can migrate your emails from IMAP to Exchange. Contact Support (support@leap.us) for help.

good product - decent support

Commentaires : Overall LEAP is a fantastic product and when lockdown happened we were able to continue to work uninterrupted.

Avantages :

We looked at a number of different Case management Systems before settling on LEAP. It is a great product . The mobile app version is fantastic which has the ability to drop documents and pictures on the go into files. the staff are knowledgeable and friendly. [SENSITIVE CONTENT] was our initial contact provided us with training and guidance and he was great.

Inconvénients :

The webchat is good so you can get instant contact with the helpdesk. More than often they can resolve it there and then. If they aren't able to solve it there and then sometimes at busy periods call back time can be a few hours. There is a particular issue re forwarding previous emails within LEAP which creates an error message. However LEAP are aware and are working on resolving it. Perhaps some more follow up training would be good.

Ease of use

Commentaires : I implemented using LEAP shortly before COVID19 began, which was lucky. Given that my staff worked from home, the ease of use really helped.

Avantages :

I liked that I was able to learn how to use various functions of LEAP in a short period of time. While I am still learning how to use all of its functions, it is not difficult.

Inconvénients :

Still learning how to integrate all of my existing forms into the program
