Avantages :

I was paying over $300/mo for a full service payroll for myself + 3 employees to a CPA. I now pay under $40/month for full service payroll with Patriot, and their software is a joy to use. Running a quick payroll, and handling bonuses, benefits, and deductions is so straight forward. The setup and support team is easy to access, quick to answer, and in the US!

Inconvénients :

Just because I like to have all of the information, as a feature suggestion, it would be nice to have a tax portal to see my balances and standing all of the state/federal tax accounts.

Simple interface, good reports, and help files. The best is call-in support. Called often in begging as I learned and conferenced with my financial advisor on a three-way call for Solo 401(k)

Inconvénients :

The hours to call as I am west coast and busy. Like that support is US based though. Did not like they use SVB bank as it was a poor choice - they fixed that.

Being a church, payroll has it's own tax laws and Patriot offered those features.

Inconvénients :

Did not know you had to have all the tax accounts set up before Patriot would pay any of them, thus we got penalties.

Perfect for a small company with basic payroll needs

Avantages :

I'm so glad that Patriot offers a basic payroll service. While shopping around, I found mostly companies that only offer more automated payroll services that do a lot for you. I get how that could be great for many people and companies, but I don't need or want full service payroll. The other, equally fantastic thing about Patriot is their customer service. I've only needed to reach out to them a couple of times, but I never waited long to get someone on the line. Their reps were very competent, and my questions were answered quickly.

Inconvénients :

I had issues with W2 and W3 reporting with SSA, but it was not Patriot's fault at all. I didn't have time to resolve electronic filing issues with the SSA, so I needed to mail physical copies. Since specific color forms are required for that, I couldn't simply print the W2s as generated by Patriot. Patriot's W2 and W3 files are perfect for electronic filing. Just not mail filing. I had to finagle a Word Doc with all the necessary info spaced out in hard-to-guess ways. It took a number of hours, but I got it. It worked out in the end. But it would have been AMAZING if Patriot had been able to give me a file that had all the info spaced out on the page where it needed to be, in order to simply print onto a W2 or W3 form. I have no idea if that's possible, or how it could be done. But OMG, my life would have been so less stressful for those couple of days!

Great small business payroll!

Commentaires : Very good overall communication, easy chat available for help on the fly or call in with a bit of a wait to ask more detailed questions. On line help FAQ very detailed and self explanatory.

Avantages :

Take the headache out of paying yourself and your employees, ensure accurate tax calculations and avoid over/underpayment with this easy but full featured system. Cost is based on number of employees so perfect for startups and small businesses.

Inconvénients :

Some questions about when taxes are paid to Fed and various other state governments; specifically: Unemployment insurance.

Patriot is Revolutionary!

Avantages :

The customer service is through the roof! While there are rarely any problems, when/if I do need to call them, they are there, on the phone, in person, helpful, and courteous - EVERY TIME!

Inconvénients :

I can't do payroll on my phone because the app gives me double timecards and Patriot has ignored this problem for over two years.

A great time-saver for running payroll and paying taxes for small businesses

Avantages :

Once set up this is a great time-saver for running payroll and paying taxes for small businesses. I liked that I was able to run payroll very quickly and I could relax that the required taxes were being paid for our business. I liked being able to pay our employees direct pay. Our accountant liked being able to run reports and that it integrated into Quickbooks.

Inconvénients :

The biggest con that we experienced is that there was too much required time between running payroll and being able to direct deposit checks into our employee accounts, especially once accounts are already established, ach transfers should be able to be done faster, 2 day max, not 3-4 business days min.

Have some independent Bank problems that can make it some late response.

Patriot Payroll Review

Commentaires : Really like it! The customer service team is AMAZING! I've never had any issue that couldn't be solved quickly and efficiently

Avantages :

The product is very easy to use, especially without having too much experience with payroll processing. Adding all our historical records for the year was very easy, it easily creates journal entries that can be imported directly into Quickbooks!

Inconvénients :

There really isn't any con. The ONLY thing that is frustrating at times - it has nothing to do with the service itself, however, when I process payroll before getting approval from my boss (oops!) i've had to void the full payroll only to process it a day or two later (cash flow) - the taxes are deducted from our account 2x, then refunded after 1-2 days. This is our fault when this happens, but if I had to list a con I guess that would be it :)

Patriot Software

Commentaires : Customer Service is great . It's not always intuitive with where to find things, but over the year + we've used it they've made a few great improvments (like multi hour wages, and pto tracking).

Avantages :

We use Patriot Software in a wide variety of industries (restaurant, retail, day care, and more). I love how I can set it up for a client, and show them briefly how to run their own payroll. Very easy for simply payrolls.

Inconvénients :

My biggest pet peeve is the inflexibility of making tax adjustments. For Example: a restaurant where they pay out tips each night means that a check would be for sever hours only, usually about $40 for the week. The tips justify enough taxes that they end up with a negative paycheck. In any other system I can manually adjust the taxes held to get the check to zero or close. (the server ends up owing money at the end of the year). With PS, I have to come up with other options for getting the paycheck to zero (like getting the business to cover the taxes in the meantime).

Why didn't I try this software sooner

Commentaires : I am kicking myself for not doing this sooner. Great support that is US based and I'm treated very professionally.

Avantages :

I had heard it was complicated to set up, but once I had everything in I realized that was a good thing. Payroll has gotten so much more complicated over the years, to have all the small parts done right was a work saver. I wasn't having to create multiple work-arounds and spend extra time double checking. The non-accountant business owner, should consider hiring someone for a short time, get it set up right, then sit back and let the program do it magic.

Inconvénients :

Because I prepare the payroll tax filings outside of Patriot I wish there was a simple report that listed the employee name, hours, gross, and full listing of SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER. Currently I have to dig through the employees' records and manually write down the SS#. I know a lot of this is ID thief protection. But I have an IRS Tax Preparer Certification and they required me to be finger printed and back ground checked.

Patriot is an amazing platform for small businesses

Commentaires : I have been a customer for over 4 years. I left for a brief time thinking I could find something better but after only 5 months, I came back to Patriot. There short falls do not add up to their amazing customer service!

Avantages :

You can't beat the price point for the technology. it's a solid platform for a small business. They are constantly developing new features that enhance the experience. Their customer service is the best in the business, by far! I don't know how they do it but they hire the nicest most helpful people out there.

Inconvénients :

Their reports are somewhat limited and the ability to capture history for changes is non-existent.

Bang for your buck!

Commentaires : I had tried ADP and PAYCHEX before switching to Patriot. As a sole proprietor running a small business, I was not prepared to handle payroll taxes. ADP was so expensive, i felt. Paychex had me depend on a person to take my info and process it. That person was off one day when my payroll needed completed and i missed payroll! That didn't go over well. For the last few years we have used and fallen in love with the simplicity of Patriot. I input the numbers and it gives me a PDF to print onto my checks instantly. It's all I ever wanted.

Avantages :

1.) Its simple to use. 2.) Its cheap. 3.) Full featured but lets me print my own checks instantly.

Inconvénients :

I thought at first that Patriot was going to send out the Tax documents to my employees. But that wasnt the case. That was a bummer as i wasnt at first prepared. But it makes since that we should send them to know we meet our deadlines and have proof they were sent.

Best Business Decision!

Avantages :

I do not have a business degree but I have my own medical practice. I used other companies for payroll and they repeated made mistakes and were expensive. I switched to Patriot 2 years ago and have been so happy about my choice! The staff was very helpful getting set up and once I was set up, it is so easy to use! I would never return to the big companies! I recommend Patriot to all of my colleagues!

Inconvénients :

The ONLY con is that it takes 5 business days to get the payroll done, so if there is a holiday and we forget it falls in the middle of the week, I end up having to hand write the payroll instead of direct deposit.

Accurate, easy to use software and full of features

Commentaires : Working with Patriot software has been easy and worry free over the past years. The tax payments are made timely and are accurate. Customer service is available to speak with via telephone which is a major plus.

As a full-service payroll subscriber there is no way to run a Form 941 without producing the entire quarterly tax report package. The workers compensation companies only want Form 941, so therefore I must use pdf software to extract this from from the package to submit.

Basic Payroll for Small Business

Commentaires : For small business, it's a great value. We are Full Service Payroll customers so I can't speak on partial service. I understand there is some manual effort on your part if you take the partial service option. My CPA was amazed that Patriot does Full Service payroll for what they charge. Like the Accounting Software, it's pretty basic compared to Quickbooks but if you only have a a few employees it's not a big deal. I also like that if you have a payroll question on "Why is this happening" they can answer it. Sometimes the answer goes beyond the functionality of the software and that's ok that their team will do that. Customer Service is excellent. Highly recommend Patriot.

Avantages :

The full service payroll is totally "hands off". They do everything, including filing reports. For the price it's a bargain. I can run Payroll in less than 5 minutes. The Wizard works well. If you make a mistake, delete the run and start over. Software is highly Available, as it is in AWS as I understand. Have never had an unplanned outage. If you are looking at the Payroll, consider the Accounting package also as the integration is totally seamless.

Inconvénients :

The reports can be confusing, but that's not an issue with the software, it's because I'm not an accountant. YTD reporting could be a little better.

Great Product For Accountant Users & Business Owners

Commentaires : Overall a great experience and will continue to use in the future. It gets the job done and it definitely feels like the company continues to grow and expand the product, always in positive directions.

Avantages :

Pleasant to look at and navigate the UI; has an intuitive design that usually allows one to figure things out quickly; the reports are top notch; and integrates with QBO & XERO. Also, the Advisor program for accountants is intriguing and definitely a plus, though I haven't capitalized on that quite yet.

Inconvénients :

At times, certain functions and the design seem basic and possibly below par than the competition in terms of features and additional (though not essential) tools or options. But I'm ok with this since the product does everything I need it to do.

The best decision!

Commentaires : Purchasing access to the Patriot Software program was one of my best decisions. In fact, I wish I had started sooner because it would have saved me a lot of time and money. I appreciate knowing when I call for tech support I will be able to speak with a person in a timely manner, and that person will be patient with me. I cannot imagine growing my business without Patriot Software.

Avantages :

I am both a scientist and an educator, not a business person by training. Patriot Software was recommended to me by my accountant. I primarily use the payroll features for my small business. It is so easy to use for both myself and employees. I appreciate the fact there is an employee portal. All of the features from running payrolls, to creating W2s is so user-friendly. And when I haven't been sure how to accomplish something the phone in teach support has been amazing. Aside from the product being a wonderful time saver for me to use, it also at a price point that is incredibly reasonable.

Inconvénients :

This is one of the rare items I have ever used where I have nothing constructive that should be changed. I have been thrilled with all aspects of the Patriot System.

Kicks Qickbooks aside for the value

Commentaires : It has been great , and the value and ease of access are phenomenal.

Avantages :

First of all, very affordable. Next, it is very easy to run payroll, the dates are already selected. I just put in the number of hours and download the pay stubs. The reports are very easy to use as well and come in extremely handy when paying taxes, especially at the end of the year!

Inconvénients :

I was going to say nothing until recently. A new employee started and she is working low hours however the software was not taking out a federal income tax for her. I realize that is a precaution against someone not being liable if they do not make enough, but it is a problem when the company owes monthly federal payments and the system does not accept a $0.00 when the obvious other taxes are being paid. I'm actually going to have to call customer service soon...

Easy to use and accurate

Payroll is easy. It takes just a few minutes and there are no hassles.

Inconvénients :

If you start a payroll, you can't go back and edit employee information without cancelling the payroll and starting over. Also, if you have some employees on direct deposit and others on paper checks, you have to set the pay date based on the constraints of direct deposit. You can't submit the direct deposit for Friday payment, and allow paper check employees to pick-up their checks as soon as they are printed. The checks will be post-dated.

Great for Small Business

Avantages :

Overall Patriot Payroll systems have been very user friendly for our small medical practice. Timecard features are easy to use for employees and payroll administration. Adding payroll features such as insurance deductions, 401(k) contributions and payroll advancement deductions are easy to implement and are immediately updated in the system. Patriot makes it easy to find payroll tax filings and keeping track of accrued time-off benefits for employees. I would highly recommend this software for small businesses looking for an easy-to-maintain payroll solution.

Inconvénients :

Some of the payroll tax integrations could be improved on a state-by-state basis. It's not as intuitive if an employee wants to make certain tax deductions (withholding more than just standard deductions). Also, if you have employees who often work at multiple sites, there's no easy way to select the location where the work is performed other than updating the employees profile and changing it on a daily basis when submitting your payroll. Also, it would be nice to have time-off accrual rules built in to the employee profile as opposed to going into the separate module for time-off rules, but this is a very minor issue.

Patriot Payroll Above and Beyond!

Commentaires : Patriots customer service is great. Anytime I have had an issue they have responded promptly with a fix or at least information regarding the issue.

Avantages :

Patriot is very user friendly and cost effective. Payroll is very easy to run and reports are easy to find and put together.

Inconvénients :

There are a few items that could use some help: 1st - Payroll Draws could have a section on the payroll run versus backing out and having to go in under the employee first. 2nd - Having the option to pay out a bonus without zeroing out a salary and adding in hours. System requires a 0 salary but 1 hour to pay out a bonus. 3rd - The option to pay out a bonus with only social security and medicare. Almost all payroll companies offer this....what we have to do is change the W4 and then go back and add it back in...that can cause an error that could easily be fixed. Lastly - No timecard system for Monthly payroll processing. There is a weekly, semiweekly and bi monthly but no option for Monthly. There are still some out there that use this option to pay their employees and not offering a timecard system is a loss to patriot.
