FlexSim for Industrial Automation

Commentaires : It's been rewarding, in that it's allowed us to visualize a lot of things we hadn't previously. The customer service has been phenomenal and they're constantly pushing out revisions to improve the user experience and add features.

Avantages :

It's relatively easy to get a model going on a high-level. It has been very useful in fleshing out concepts for work cell designs and visualizing process-flows, bottlenecks, etc..The customer support is the best I've seen for any software. There's an online community where the developers will answer, in detail, any question asked within an hour. And they will work with any user directly on their model to resolve issues.

Inconvénients :

The software isn't very robust. It has a number of errors you have to weed through, particularly when you're trying to model something that isn't a pre-defined object. Something as simple as making an operator in the model pull a single box off of a pallet that's in a rack took a week and multiple questions to figure out and required programming multiple objects in C++. Bringing in a 3D model for a machine can be frustrating, due to the way sizes are defined. It typically drops in about 1000x larger and takes awhile to get sized correctly.There is no object edge detection. Operators and vehicles will natively travel through any object to get somewhere. So you have to designate paths and boundaries which can eat up processing speed.

My grad student was working on a hospital project using FlexsimHC.

Commentaires : Animation feature of the software was a good help when making presentations to healthcare professionals who don't know much about computer simulation.

Avantages :

The animation features and functionality of FlexsimHC were very helpful for the project that we needed to test different scenarios for capacity analysis and scheduling of key resources.

Inconvénients :

My grad student was creating a simulation model for a med/surg unit using FlexsimHC. There were some hidden bugs causing the problems of simulation runs and the tech support was not able to help fix...

FlexSim - A powerful improvement tool

Commentaires : I have used FlexSim to model several systems over the past 18 years: multiple distribution centers; a restaurant kitchen operation; a rail yard; a harvesting operation and several large manufacturing operations in several industries. As a professional I have honed my simulation modeling skills over the years and FlexSim has been part of that growth through their excellent technical support and continuous improvement and expansion of the FlexSim software.

Avantages :

In my profession, it is important that a simulation package is flexible enough to apply to many types of systems, powerful enough handle very large and complex operations if necessary, and user-friendly so that projects can be completed efficiently and at the lowest cost possible. FlexSim hits high marks in all of these areas. As a past user of other simulation software packages, I can say that Flexsim has been an outstanding software package to use and has continued to grow in value for me over the past 18 years. In addition, I have found the customer service/technical support from Flexsim to be exceptional.

Inconvénients :

I don't have any real "cons" at this time. I tend to push FlexSim to its limits with the applications that I try to model. At this time, the biggest issue that I am having is working with cranes (limited ability to handle multiple cranes on a single rail, for example). With that said, the technical support group works with me to develop work-arounds for handle current FlexSim limitations at they occur.

A perfect example of OOD design

Avantages :

I like the way FlexSim models the world. The concepts of flow items, fixed resources, transporters are perfect abstract of massive real-world use cases. FlexSim has rich pre-built library that can meet most customers' requirements and users don't need to master programming in order to master FlexSim. More than this, FlexSim is so extensible with FlexScript and c++ so can literally build anything with the building blocks provided by FlexSim and your creativity. Not mention that their customer service is excellent, any questions post on their forum will be taken care of by their engineers within a short time.

Inconvénients :

FlexSim only supports Window but I use a Mac computer so I have to install a virtual machine locally to use FlexSim. It would be wonderful if they provide dock image/mac version/web based application.

Quick to build model and easy error handling

Commentaires : I am quite happy as an user.

Avantages :

It has fantastic 3D visualization. It is rather simple to build models and study the what-if analysis.

Inconvénients :

I do not quite like the process flow potion of the modeling. I wish we could do the whole model development on the object portion of the software.

FlexSim, excellent simulation and modeling software that is accessible and easy to use.

Commentaires : As an Industrial Engineer, being able to simulate production lines or a plant is essential to be able to analyze future improvement implementations. FlexSim is a free trial software, which allows you to perform these activities. Being able to create your entire production line, from adding machines, operators, warehouses, transportation, to manage time, different products that ultimately allow you to analyze what improvements you can apply in your processes or if you want to implement a new one, you can visualize it and see if it is feasible or not your ideas.
To be able to make an infinite number of improvements or alternatives that can make your processes better. It allows you to show your managers or meetings how the new implementations will look like and make decisions.

Avantages :

What I like the most is that it has a simple interface and the free trial allows you to do a lot of things and use different tools.

Inconvénients :

There is nothing that I dislike, however, I consider that the graphics could be improved a little, but nothing that affects the purpose of the software.

FlexSim user review

Commentaires : Using the process simulation that was created a few weeks ago, it became abundantly clear in a quantitative manner how much of an impact each factor has on the process outcome. Changing one or more factors and re-running the simulation is child's play using FlexSim.

Avantages :

Words fail me when I attempt to tell my colleagues at work how astoundingly simple this software is! I have never created a process simulation of any complexity before and I created a moderately complex process simulation using live process data in FlexSim in less than 45 minutes. This software is positively brilliant!

Inconvénients :

Some less capable individuals do snicker a bit when they see the manual movements on screen during a simulation. Perhaps that can be made to look a bit more modern-looking? Still, no complaints from simulation nerds like me!

FlexSim Industrial Design Project

Commentaires : Completed an 8 month long design project for a customer. We were provided the full license for the period by FlexSim. Solved real world manufacturing problems and optimized.

Avantages :

You can build and simulate almost anything. Optimization option. Tester option.

Inconvénients :

Some errors with the tester. The instruction manual could be designed better.

My experience using flexsim

Avantages :

Its easy to learn and it is user friendly. The help mean is really helpful when you are stuck in between.

Inconvénients :

Sometimes in flexsim healthcare there are errors which are not properly defined to solve. The simulation running sometimes hangs the desktop.

I really like Flexsim

Avantages :

I like the reactivity of the dev team. They adapt the softwrae very quickly with a good sens of users needs. Flexsim is esay to use and as it's name imply it is very flexible. Flexsim France is so helpful and reactive, I tried other softwares ans this is clearly one of Flexsim's strength.

Inconvénients :

It's sometime difficult to find answers in Flexsim's user manual. Differents versions of Flexsim programming language are in the same location and it can be difficult to find the right information. More tutorials could be great too. Those available today are quite basics.

A Necessity for Process Improvement

Commentaires : FlexSim has been monumental in achieving process improvement goals. It really gets the faculty on board when they can see themselves walking around. It's visual and helps the user understand their processes and systems so that they can improve. We've saved hundreds of thousands in preventable costs by changing processes and staffing levels based on future patient volumes.

Avantages :

It's a visual way to represent your processes rather than strictly numbers.

Inconvénients :

Occasional bugs that require the user to save often but every software has a varying degree of them.

Great software with that lives up to its name of "flex"able and easy to use.

Avantages :

Can apply to many different processes or types of operations. Great for showing manual and automation processes that work together. Easy to use and train new users on the software. The flexibility of the software has allowed me to show automated processes with manual processes, part movement, and part flow all at the same time. Ability to show how things interrelate on a larger scale.

Inconvénients :

Would like to see more drop and drag pre-coding for different types of machining processes. The software is easy to adapt to a wide range of processes and simulate the movement of product however it would be a good feature to have some pre-loaded or base processes to select from and build off of.

Nice Process Simulation Software Tool for Healthcare system

Commentaires : I have been using FlexSim for 3 years and impressed with the progress of their development team that kept coming up with new features that make the software getting better. We got a number of compliments from the project team when we use FlexSim to show and discuss our concept to drive the process improvements.

Avantages :

FlexSim software provides very nice 3D animation that can be presented to non-software technical stakeholders (e.g. the clinical staff and physicians). The time to develop the model is not too long. The software also give you the flexibility to customized the model in the way you like. Dashboard function is very good. Customer Support is excellent with quick turnaround time. The actually help you build and debug the model if you reach out for support. Price is good comparing to the competitors.

Inconvénients :

It take time for new employee to learn about the software. Debugging is not very easy for new user too.

Great Sim Tool

Commentaires : Modeling various configurations of material handling and packaging systems in FlexSim has been enormously helpful to the product development arm of my organization in designing new products and systems before we actually have to build them.

Avantages :

I like Flexsim's flexibility in modeling material handling processes of all kinds and use experimentation to rapidly compare multiple scenarios. Its intuitive to use and easy to run.

Inconvénients :

I would like if there could be more variability in some of the robotic and ASRS objects available within the experimentation tool, though there ways around this, so small complaint.

Flexsim for manufacturing facilities planning course

Commentaires : I have used several discrete events simulation packages over the last 20+ years, and Flexsim is the most powerful yet easy-to-use software for plant layout simulation I've encountered.

Avantages :

Power, flexibility, freedom to customize applications for beginners through pros, legacy models not lost, statistical analysis embedded, excellent customer support, and large, active user group willing to collaborate and share.

Inconvénients :

No drawing app included to generate new 3D entities. However, does accept a wide variety of formats from a multitude of CAD packages.

One product , Two Faces

Avantages :

FLexsim is a double-faceted product. Technically it allows us to validate and remove technical risks on flows. Commercially it is a great support for flow presentation for our client

Inconvénients :

The lack of comments and tutorial on the handling of the process flow and high level programming (difficult to know all the objects and their method

Principal Lecturer

Commentaires : As a member of HE I have found the software extremely useful for teaching DES to 1st, 2nd and 3rd year students. The software is easy to get to grips with and the students really enjoy using it.

Avantages :

User friendly interface Easy of data analysis Visualisation

Inconvénients :

The library of 3D models, it may help if there was multiply 3D models for a given library feature ie 3 or 4 processor 3D models. Possible need more walk through tutorials ie on financial side of dashboards

FlexSim simulation software gives great analytical capability

Commentaires : I have seen FlexSim used at each of my employers, and it has been an analytical powerhouse for identifying problems and assessing solutions.

Avantages :

- Easy to learn and build models without extensive simulation experience - Capable of simulating complex and unique systems without significant effort - Fully customizable interface

Inconvénients :

- The quantity of sample simulations was lacking, but has been improving recently.

Excellent Customer Support

Commentaires : Having a little bit of programming background i find flexsim easy to use and appreciate the level at which i can customize my model with custom code.

Avantages :

I attended their training which was excellent. I particularly appreciate the customer service. When i post on the forum i get same day responses. Flexsim is a great piece of software with an insane amount of capability.

Inconvénients :

There is still a few bugs. Like when the model is running panning the 3d view is glitchy. The overall interaction with 3d space is clunky but once you learn it its not too bad.

Honest Review

Commentaires : We are able to determine where bottlenecks of conveyance is inside the plant prior to implementation, resolve them, and then launch with less issues.

Avantages :

The ability to program the software to work in any industry. The capability of being universal yet customize to be very specific is fantastic.

Inconvénients :

There are some limitations that would seem to be easy to overcome, like only using rectangles for control areas. Granted, rotating them is possible, but still leaves room for improvement. It would also be nice to be able to import AGV network paths.

FlexSim 2019 Review

Avantages :

The new logic based processes are very easy to understand.

Inconvénients :

Modeling labs are not as visually pleasing as compared to the last software version. There should be same icon choices for the combiners and separators, not just the singular machine icon.

Great, easy to use software with very helpful local customer service.

Commentaires : Great experience. I love the software to validate and show the customer different optimization possibilities in their hospital department.

Avantages :

It is very easy to learn the basics to create a good working model. When you are using it more often, there are also a lot of opportunities to customize your model. I also really like the Healthcare specific software, since this saves a huge amount of time in building Hospital models.

Inconvénients :

Sometimes it is really hard to find your error or mistake in a larger model. Also the results in the dashboards are not always entirely logical to me.

Very useful simulation tool

Commentaires : I used successfully for convincing our customer on Man-Machine ratio for one of the important manufacturing process.

Avantages :

Very powerful simulation tool, can be used to the extent one can take his imagination.

Inconvénients :

Less number of standard 3D images. Getting upgraded every year. Cost wise it is preventing many companies to buy it

An easy and practical tool

Commentaires : FlexSim is interesting compared to other tools because it is easy to use especially for Busines School students (non-engineers). Students appreciate a lot to simulate diffirent types of problems (production, transport, supply chain, ...). I recommend this software.

Avantages :

FlexSim is very easy to use. The visual is very interesting with the 3D but also the posibility of RV.

Inconvénients :

Lack of detailed training support with logical progression.
