Great ERP for Small Contractors

5,0 il y a 5 mois

Commentaires : Through our years of using ProContractor we have been able to begin proper job costing practices, tracking equipment cost and usage, monitor daily quantities to aid in cash forecasting. It has helped us properly analyze indirect costs and overhead to push that information into our bids and ensure we are bidding profitable work.

Avantages :

The accounting aspects are very user friendly. The software has the same "feel" no matter what module you are currently using. The downfall during implementation was having an implementer who didn't understand UNIT COST budgeting and cost tracking. I had to walk her through how I wanted the software setup. Once I did that, it has worked the way I hoped it would. Her lack of understanding was a definite issue.

Inconvénients :

One of the biggest problems with ProContractor is within the document management. The software goes a great job of housing documents, it is just difficult to get back to them when you need them. Also, this is not a great software for larger construction projects.

Commentaires : It's been good. I do wonder if, at some point, ProContractor would become 'Viewpoint Express' or similar, as Viewpoint seems to integrate with more 3rd party apps.

Avantages :

Basic jobcosting, finance/accounting, asset management, and all other financial accounting for income statement and balance sheet utilization.

Inconvénients :

Making changes for new functions (time & material billings) are very involved and take too much time to implement. Almost too many options for customization.

Commentaires : I personally love Procontractor. Became a master user quickly, and now I get calls frequently with how to questions. Recently I have began using Spectrum too which is also a viewpoint product. I still hands down prefer Procontractor!

Avantages :

Procontractor is very user friendly. Has an ease of functionality.

Inconvénients :

The time it takes for certain reports to run, when you host your own server. I've noticed with the cloud; it goes much faster.

Feel like I was lied to

3,0 il y a 5 mois

Commentaires : I have noticed that PC trys to work with you more and help you more than the way it was in 2016. But now I feel stuck with a product that does not work for me. I do not have the money nor the time to get another system right now. I have looked in the past and found other systems that looked like it was more user friendly and able to access documents easier.

Avantages :

Integration was long and not what I understood. I was shocked that I had to do all the work - I thought I was paying for PC to set up a program that was specific to my needs by giving them the information. The billing can be easy if my GC accept an AIA or a standard Progress payment that PC offers but a lot of them do not so billing becomes very time consuming (read cons). There is actually not a lot I like about PC. I have been extremely disappointed because I had written down 2 pages of information I was looking for in a system and the sales person was a great sales person because it has not worked the way I have needed it to and they made it out like you

Inconvénients :

I bought it so I could have everything in one place - for instance.....Estimating (that I don't use) The ability to move estimates into Purchase Orders (that I do not use) The ability to upload pay applications from GC into PC to fill out (This was not true - actually requires a lot of money to pay someone to create a Pay App that I would be about to use with PC billing) Simple reports that I could run by crew leader, Project Manager, and GC that I could give the [sensitive content hidden] to help him make better financial decisions moving forward (I talked to PC and they did not offer what I needed) - These were some major reasons I purchased PC - Also, running sub 1099's do not match with the Income Statement. It would be nice if not only Pay Applications auto-saved in the project binder, but also Purchase orders, and change orders. It would be so nicer if Project connect would show the paid vendor invoices, and Pay Applications (they just disappear from the page, and I need those often! - I know they can be found in another report - but it's having to go look in another place - PC has that information, it just needs to be in Project Connect so it is all in one place! Taxes - I don't understand why the information would not print on a form that could be submitted to the IRS or to GA - PC gives you the information, why not put it on the correct form?To have the ability to easily scan vendor invoices into PC and to be able to view them with a click of a button in different locations

Implementation and Training

Commentaires : Still waiting for a response days later!!!

Avantages :

The program is set up to cover the entire process from Estimating through Invoicing.

Inconvénients :

I have worked, previous to migrating to the cloud, with multiple sectors of ProContractor. During the process of deciding to migrate to the cloud, I learned of a lot that we were not utilizing. Several of us were excited about starting each project off right and the ease of the project moving through each sector of the program. Once we migrated, I discovered that the support for both training and technical issues is not a priority to Trimble. We have experienced signing up for training that never happens, zero response to requests and over seven hours for tech support to respond to your ticket.

Serves its purpose but is not the most user friendly

3,0 il y a 5 mois

Commentaires : My experience with ProContractor has gotten better over the years, however I still feel like there are many things that don't flow easily. Project accounting and Work in Process is very manual. There aren't great notifying features for analytics on job performance. Teaching the system is extremely tinkery and customer support in my opinion has been poor.

Avantages :

How every section is the same format, so once you figure out the system it is somewhat repetitive.

Inconvénients :

The number of button clicks it takes to input an invoice. The inability to program a few things while entering a visa statement to keep the company and account number the same. Not being able to use dashes in project number.

Avantages :

The General ledger reports are easy to use and I like that I can just drill down to see the detail in the accounts.

Highly potent if you understand the value proposition

4,0 il y a 9 ans

Avantages :

First, it should be noted that ProContractor is an entity owned and maintained by Viewpoint Construction Software. If anything, my experience has improved since VCS' acquisition of Maxwell Systems. ProContractor does a magnificent job for medium-sized contractors who require some costing rigor in addition to an integrated software package (i.e., including accounting, project management, and estimation in one piece). However, despite the seductiveness of the product's marketing, a considerable amount of thought needs to be invested in determining, analyzing, and comparing your present internal processes from estimation to project closeout with what ProContractor offers. In other words, do not let the marketing materials do the thinking on such a crucial decision for you. ProContractor was designed with industry best practices regarding workflow as well as internal controls in mind, not necessarily simplicity (as with QuickBooks). Many complaints pertinent to supposed extraneous steps actually tie back to how the software, through an impressive yet simple permissions infrastructure, can control who (for example, in accounts payable) enters invoices, approves them, selects them for payment, prints (i.e., has access to) the checks, and posts the transactions. Shortcuts are inexpensive until you realize how expensive fraud and lost trust can become.

Inconvénients :

I do not dislike this software or the vendor, but this is an excellent opportunity to address points made by others who are dissatisfied with the product, for their disappointment deserves attention from even the most satisfied customer. When my firm adopted ProContractor and dumped QuickBooks Enterprise three years ago (just prior to my hiring, actually), we chose something that was decidedly less impressive upon implementation than presented to the directors during a trade show in Las Vegas. No thought had been given as to how our processes would align with ProContractor's intuition of proper workflow, because we were primarily concerned about fully integrating the firm's processes and procedures within the software ecosystem. We went live in three months flat after intense scrutiny of our costing, project management, and estimation procedures, humbling ourselves along the way through reconciling what we thought we knew with ProContractor's processes architecture and internal controls logic. Granted, we had suggestions (and lots of them) that were heard. Many of them, such as the lien management feature and many of the improvements in iPad integration, can be tied directly to our recommendations. Ultimately, we were satisfied, but that was because our expectations were not to invest in a system that would cater to ourselves without acceptance of potentially radical change, but rather to develop a relationship with the software and vendor that was founded on a trust of the system's logic. From there, we could use the system as a mirror to check our understanding of our business versus how it can function even more efficiently.

Not recommended because of accounting feature deficiencies.

1,5 il y a 7 ans

Avantages :

Since we migrated from American Contractor in October 2013, the technical support staff has, with maybe one or two exceptions, been very eager to help resolve problems that we have run into, and there have been many. The employee assigned to our transition (I've forgotten his title) was very helpful and, I believe, did the most he could do to try to help our frustrating position but in the final was limited by the mysterious and aloof Development Department.

Inconvénients :

Whoa, get ready! Unfortunately, their Development (programming) staff has very unresponsive to our needs. We paid for the transition of data from AC to PC and they loused up a couple of major datasets (Contacts, Equipment) and refused to fix it, leaving the two modules virtually useless to us. They did offer to correct it for a reduced hourly billing rate but after what we had already spent for the software, I rejected that plan as unfair. Because of these and other problems, I had to work seven days a week, 8-10 hours a day for over six months just to get the program somewhat working and finally get some time off. Much of what was promised us has still never happened and some basic tasks and reports have still not been implemented. (i.e. deposit slip, drill-down reports) I've also found that as I have gotten more used to PC's idiosyncrasies, I have gotten faster at data entry which has had the unfortunate effect of locking up the system. So I've had to actually slow down and wait for PC to catch up. I was hopeful a while back when Viewpoint started an online "Suggestion Box" for users to request changes, fixes, and new features. I've submitted over 50 of the hundreds that have been entered and there are very few of them (even those with many "votes") that have been included in subsequent releases. One complaint I hear from other users (with which I agree thoroughly) is that improvements, fixes etc in each release have been aimed primarily at the Estimating and Mobile modules, neither of which do we use. Accounting, for the most part, is treated like the proverbial "step-child" even though is is that work that keeps the reporting data correct and up to date.

1,0 il y a 6 ans

Commentaires : The price for this program is not worth the product you pay for! Also, its pretty bad when you have a payroll tax issue that you cant figure out so, you contact customer service and they give you an order number for them to call you back. OK.... when you have an issue with payroll tax, you don't have time to wait a couple days for them to call you to resolve the issue. So, when they did call me back they could NOT figure out why the taxes in ProContractor did what it did. They were totally baffled and could not figure it out!! So, for the first 2 payrolls of the new year (2017) i had to calculate (by hand) what the taxes would be and i entered that with a journal entry. Very very disappointed with this product.

Avantages :

Tracking change orders would be the only think worth talking about. I do like that! But ...... That is it!! I don't have 100 characters to LIKE about this program as it is asking me before continuing the final step.

Inconvénients :

I am totally disappointed with this program. I would NOT recommend it to anyone. This is not a good construction program for a contractor that does Utility work.

Not dependable

3,0 il y a 5 mois

Commentaires : We started with Procontractor 11 years ago., well before it was acquired. Was great then. Very dedicated staff that seemed to care. Now under Trimble, just one of many . The program is good. But it needs to run all the time. The inability to fix the problem is very concerning.

Avantages :

The software is easy to learn and use. Accounting Reports are very good. Estimating tool is good

Inconvénients :

The cloud hosting system is broke. Its down on average once every two weeks. Requires Tech Support ticket for them to re-boot server? Typically its down 6 or more hours. Entire company relies on Procontractor, so no work gets done. Keeping your web based software system up and running should be easy in this day and age. And I pay top dollar for Tech support.

Commentaires : ProContractor has helped up get a better idea of the material quantities we will need for a project. This is excellent for job budgeting. Although it is limited in its features, it does provide us with a good baseline for what to expect on an Earthwork project.

Avantages :

ProContractor is relatively easy to use. I have been using this product for many years.

Inconvénients :

What it is capable of for the annual subscription price is very lopsided now. It used to be much more reasonable but in recent years the price increases don't seem to be justifiable. The product has only changed slightly over the years but the price just keeps growing. Especially after being forced to only use digital plans vs the digitizer boards. The owners are retiring and selling in a couple of years, its the only reason we are not looking into other options.

Avantages :

Since I was not here for the previous software, I like ProContractor. The lettering and color scheme works well. The font is a good size. I do like the error messages. Overall, a good product.

Inconvénients :

I was not here for the initial install, but it sounds like ProContrator took away some key functionality. It appears that sorting of items is not only cumbersome, but nonexistent. Not a Good Program - Don't Waste Your Time or Money

Commentaires : While Viewpoint continues to improve items, they are still missing the mark for a construction software. I have never had so many complaints on a software.

Avantages :

Works when it wants... customer service is polite but not very helpful, its like they are trying to learn it at the same time they are trying to teach me... They are great at up-charging you just to get the program to function correctly for your business.

Inconvénients :

Data entry takes forever... every task has tons of steps and screens that you must go through. The program is very unforgiving, any mistakes you make take forever to fix and adjust. Issues take forever to get resolved or you just find a way around it and leave the issue.,.. this is not a good solution to a problem that I pay customer support to fix. Reports can be improved... an easier way to generate reports with my criteria would be great!

Easy to learn, more permissions and constraints to avoid accidental deletion of data. Access to customer service and online chat. There is a great Knowledge Base resource center.

Inconvénients :

Time tracking app needs improvement. The ability to have the field employees use an app that tracks time, material and equipment for quick invoicing on work orders would be helpful. Connecting the Field Order feature and the Purchase Order feature to the mobile app would help as well as communication/message ability from office to field.

Avantages :

Once you get everything setup correctly its fairly streamline. It's got some weird quirks but all and all not bad.

Inconvénients :

Customer Service and training are terrible! Trainers do not understand the construction industry and do not listen to the clients needs. We ended up with huge mistakes and wasted training time directly due to the lack of knowledge of the trainers. It took 7 months to finalize and go live, I was told it would only take 6 weeks. Our trainer made two mistakes in our bookkeeping module and we are told we must pay for more training time! We don't need more training, we need support to reverse the mistakes THEY made. This has gone on for 16 months. We are ready to cut our losses and go to another construction software.

Tech support

Commentaires : I have been on the system since 2015 with Viewpoint. Like most software's it has it's fair share of problems when upgrading to the new version. That I can live with all software's do that is to be expected. However, the complete disregard of what I need as a customer when I call into to tech support has had me more than once wanting to tell the owner we need to remove Procontractor and get a new software in here right away. Forget the fact that the T&M invoices are doubling but simply trying to clarify a proper way to edit a tax form 1095-C and being sent to a third-party company that has no idea how to run the ProContractor. You end up having to edit 240 forms is absolutely absurd. You keep calling back and they keep sending you to Greens Shades makes me wonder if the CEO really knows what is going on or just doesn't care. I mean if they would fix their text support issues it would be good system. I dread calling them. I would not recommend this software to anyone due to tech support only.
